A HÉT (Folyt, az l-s<3 oldalról) akarókat mindenféle apró fogásokkal akarták a kormánypártiak megakadályozni abban, hogy a választási záróra előtt ne juthassanak a szavazó helyiségbe. A csendőrök elzárták az útját a hosszú szekérsoroknak, miken a független párti községekből jövő szavazókat hozták. A főszolgabírók kiadták a parancsot a jegyzőknek, hogy “szállítsák” a választókat, ami a tényleges utazáson kivtil a szavazatot, vagy ahogyan régen mondták, — a “voksot” is jelentette. Ez azonban nem ment mindig'olyan könnyen, mint ahogyan azt a kormánypártiak szerették volna. A magyar ember keményfából van faragva és nehéz hajlítani. Az 1900-as évek kezdetén egyre erősebb lett az ellenzék és a függetlenségi pártra szavazók számának növekedését sem terrorral, .sem pedig hamis ígéretekkel megakadályozni nem lehetett. A tenger alatti olaj kérdése EisenhoWe r tábornok egyik kampány-beszédében azt ígérte, hogy ha elnök lesz, nem a szövetségi kormány, hanem az illető partmenti állam kapja a tenger alatti olajat. A “tidelands” kérdésében ezzel szemben Stevenson demokrata elnök-j elölt arra az álláspontra helyezkeditt, hogy az ilyen tenger-alatti olaj nemzeti kincs, amelyből Amerika minden polgárának egyformán haszna kell legyen, nemcsak az illető államoknak. Gazdátlan milliók Az amerikai postahivatal pénztárában 37 millió dollár gyűlt fel, amelynek nem akadt gazdája. Postautalványon küldtek pénzt különböző cimekre, de vagy a cimek voltak rosszak, vagy az illető ismeretlen helyre költözött, és igy a pénzt nem tudták kikézbesiteni.
