PAGE 4 MAGYAR HERALD 1997 - Issue 3 Plain Dealer Columnist Lectured About Diversity in Cleveland William Miller, award winning columnist for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, spoke on "The History of Cleveland's Diversity" on November 7, 1997 at Cuyahoga Community College Western Campus Theatre, Pleasant Valley Road, Parma. Miller, an employee of the Plain Dealer for 36 years, has written extensively on world and national events, however, he has specialized in the rich cultural heritage of Cleveland. His column on that very subject has appeared in the newspaper's Friday Magazine for over 18 years. The various ethnic groups which make up the city have appreciated his work. The entire ethnic history of Cleveland is the most fascinating in the entire nation. We should indeed wonder about our history here. Hungarians and Hungarian descendents number approximately 120,000 strong! The latest statistical accounting indirectly reduced the numbers to one-third of those, who claimed themselves to be Hungarian because of their birthplaces being disattatched from Hungary. Horribile Dictu! Let us hope that the next will be more honest! 1998 MEMBERSHIP DUES Your yearly contribution of $25.00 is very important for the Club and is now due for the 1998 calendar year. Most of them have already entered into eternal life as we look at the impressive list. Let their memories forever be blessed! Those who are still with us as past presidents: Edward M. THE GREAT ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARTY OF OUR MAGYAR CLUB OUR ANNUAL FESTIVE CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION was held on December 13, Saturday evening at the First Hungarian Reformed Church (14530 Alexander Road, Walton Hills, Ohio).
