The celebration included a speech by the Club's president, Dr. István J. Tóth, who recounted many of the Club's involvements throughout the years in benefiting the Hungarian and Hungarian-American community, including the "Night in Budapest" galas, the annual Christmas Dinners, playing host to Prime Minister Antall's visit to Cleveland as well as several other Hungarian government leaders, initiating student exchange programs and of course, initiating the Miskolc-Cleveland Sister City Program. Some of the goals of The Magyar Club Dr. Tóth touched upon were collaboration with people of Hungarian origin having similar values not only in Cleveland but in the entire Great Lakes region as well, including Buffalo, Chicago, Toledo and Toronto. He stressed that "working together on our common goals, I believe will make a difference to the quality of our own lives and to the lives of our friends in this region and in central Europe." On of the highlights of the evening was the induction ceremony of Governor George Voinovich, not only as Honorary Magyar Club member, but as Honorary Hungarian as well. The GovE.B. de Vito LIVING MEMORY Will I see you again, land of my childhood that I left with nothing, nothing at all except an invisible reel of film for me to play and replay like a video of memory? Chopin, when he left his homeland, carried away a scoop of earth, and in the old tales, even Adam left Eden with a greening sprig: ernor and Mrs. Voinovich have been longtime supporters and friends of the Hungarian community. Dr. Toth's daughter, Erika, wore tradition Hungarian dress and presented the Governor and Mrs. Voinovich with a Hungarian music CD and a book about Hungary, and Dr. Tóth presented them with a certificate to commemorate the event. The Governor thanked The Magyar Club for the gifts and the certificate and congratulated the Magyar Club and its leaders. The Governor then presented Dr. Tóth with a proclamation. Three Magyar Club members, Mr. Béla Köteles, Dr. Stephen Szabó and Mr. Ed Kováchy, were also honored for the outstanding contributions they have made to The Club over the years. The evening's festivities continued with a traditional Hungarian dinner and dancing, a video about The Magyar Club by Mr. Frank Sötét, and much reminiscing and talk of the future. We would sincerely like to congratulate The Magyar Club of Cleveland on 70 years of bringing Hungarian culture and tradition to the forefront and helping to promote and perpetuate it as well. □ The above article was gratefully written by the editor of Amerikai Magyar NépszavaISzabadság and was published in their October 28, 1994 issue. a shoot from the ligni aloe tree to plant and conjure up that Garden once more, wherever he might be. Perhaps the exile, taking something that though unreal, may still evoke as in a vanishing veil of smoke, a scene, a pageant, or a tableau, is bringing along what is to him like luz, the indestructible bone: the smallest part of him, yet known to resurrect the whole again.
