At the 1992 Christmas Party, three were honored for their distinguished services : Ed Kovácsy, Emery J. Szabó and Dr. Stephen Szabó. Our Honored "Honorary Members" In the 68 years of our Cleveland Magyar Club, until today, only two distinguished persons received this eminent title prescribed in our by-laws. These two are: Christoph von Dohnányi, director of the Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, and the well-known Dr. Andor C. Klay (Sziklay), the eminent diplomat and writer, and professor of the Foreign Service Institute (retired). It is your editor's intention to present a descriptive portrait of the aforementioned honorées in our next issue of the Magyar Herald. Elizabeth Kondorossy, our former Club secretary, won the special honor of being invited by the White House to attend the Presidential Inauguration. An article appeared in our city's daily newspaper, The Plain Dealer, from the pen of William F. Miller. We proudly quote from the article entitled " Ethnic Activist, 82, Savors Chance. " "So Elizabeth Kondorossy, 82, a retired schoolteacher, former musician and ethnic activist, will take her wheelchair and walker and travel to Washington to attend the presidential inauguration of Bill Clinton Susan Strait, 23, assistant activities director at the Judson Retirement Center, where Kondorossy lives, volunteered to accompany Kondorossy to help her at the inauguration. Kondorossy paid $225 for her inaugural tickets, including entrance to the ball. The Judson Retirement Community and Kondorossy are helping pay for Strait's ticket and other expenses. The invitation was a surprise. Although Kondorossy has not been secretary of the Magyar Club in Cleveland for five years, the invitation came through that ethnic affiliation. She also figures it could be because of her 30 years of Hungarian ethnic activities. Kondorossy's late husband, Leslie, was a well-known Hungarian composer and conductor, especially popular in Budapest, and in Hungarian musical circles in Cleveland. During their 27 years together, they shared the Hungarian spotlight. Elizabeth wrote lyrics and text for more than 125 musical works her husband wrote. They also gave concerts in fine music halls here. She was a piano and organ accompanist and retired after 34 years as the organist and choir director of the First Hungarian Reformed Church in Cleveland."
