MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 5. oldal Pentecostal Greeting to the congregations of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America Pünkösdi körlevél az Amerikai Magyar Református Egyház gyülekezeteihez Dear Brethren in Jesus Christ! As we gather in praise and worship, our focus this Pentecost is on the gifts that the Spirit Gives for the building up of the body of Christ. We celebrate how God has blessed us through the service of so many people working in so many ways "to fulfill our calling as the people of God, the body of Christ." Pentecost is the third major feast day of the Christian Year (the others being Easter and Christmas) and is always called as the "Birthday" of the Church. This is because it was on Pentecost that the Spirit was poured out upon all the believers - changing them from folk who hid in the upper room out of fear of the authorities to people who boldly proclaimed the good news of Jesus Christ "starting in Jerusalem, and going to the ends of the world". The Spirit that was poured out, in accordance with the prophecy granted to the Prophet Joel, is the living presence of God with us and it is the Spirit that does those things to build up the body of Christ that we cannot do on our own. The story of Pentecost is indeed the story of how unsettling the in breaking of the Spirit can be. But it is the story of spiritual transformation, as all the people in the crowd were empowered as they heard the Gospel in a way they understood. Perhaps we ought to pray again that God send that unsettling Spirit among us to confuse us and shake us loose from our safe places. As we learn to speak and hear „in other tongues,” it may bring new light to shine on familiar matters. Without the Holy Spirit the Christ-event — the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus — remains imprisoned in history as something to remember; think about, and reflect on. The Holy Spirit of Jesus comes to dwell with us, so that we can become living Christs here and now. The Holy Spirit lifts the whole mystery of salvation out of its particularities and makes it into something universal, embracing all peoples, all countries, all seasons, and all eras. So the Pentecost is also the moment of empowering. Each individual human being can claim the Spirit of Jesus as the guiding spirit of his or her life. In the Holy Spirit we can speak and act freely and confidently with the knowledge that the same Spirit that inspired Jesus is inspiring us. We certainly have to prepare ourselves carefully for this feast so that we can not only receive the gift of the Holy Spirit but also let the Spirit bear fruit in us. Let the Holy Spirit work in our life and service of our congregations by its power. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth. ” (Acts 1:8) Kedves Testvérek, Szolgatársak! Köszöntünk mindenkit egyházunk közösségében a keresztyén egyház “születésnapján”. Bár naptárak nem jelzik hogy emlékezzünk rá, legyen szívünkbe vésve Jézusnak a mennybemenetele előtt elhangzott Ígérete: "... vesztek erőt, amikor eljön hozzátok a Szentlélek, és tanúim lesztek Jeruzsálemben, egész Júdeábán és Samáriában, sőt egészen a föld végső határáig. ” Apostolok cselekedetei 1:8. Bár Krisztus már nem lesz láthatóan a tanítványokkal, de ígérete szerint erőt nyernek, a Szentlélek árad ki rájuk, hogy munkára, szolgálatra késztesse őket. Az Úr tudta azt, hogy sokszor az emberek érzés nélküli kőszíveit és a mindennapok fáradalmaiban közömbössé vált gondolatait egyedül cask Isten tudja megváltoztatni. Tudta, hogy a mennyből kell kapniuk az erőt, amely többlettel az evangélium csak akkor lesz hatásos, ha azt a Lélektől áthevülten azok hirdetik, akik ismerik az út, az igazság és az élet igazi értelmét. Pünkösdkor a tanítványok egy akarattal, egy szívvel, egy hittel vártak arra, ami később életük egyetlen értelmévé válik: tovább vinni Krisztus nagy művét. Egyházunknak erre az egy szívvel, egy lélekkel, egy akarattal való várakozásra lenne szüksége, hogy meghalljuk a hangos felhívást, hogy szorgalmasan gyakoroljuk az istenfélő életet, hogy lélekben átalakulhassunk és alkalmasak legyünk arra, amit Krisztus vár tőlünk, elfogadni ezt az erőt a pünkösdi Szentlélek által. Ha ezt elfogadjuk, akkor érett hívőkké növekedünk. Ezen az ünnepen ezért imádkozzunk, hogy a Szentlélek ereje, életrekeltő, gyógyító hatalma áramütésként érje megbénult lelkünket, hogy felálljunk béna-ságunkból, életúntságunkból, szolgálatra való alkalmatlanságunkból. Ha vesszük az erőt, amelyet hozzánk küld az Úr, akkor a földi nyomorult érzéki állapotot valami egészen új élet egészséges pezsgése fogja meg-eleveníteni lelki egészségre. Ennek az erőnek a próbája ez lesz: Mit teszel Krisztusért Amerikai Magyar Református Egyház közössége? Milyen áldozatot hozol egyházadért? Milyen győzelmeket aratsz bűnös életed felett, ha felülkerekedsz önzéseden, ha ellenállsz a kísértésnek, amely arra indít, hogy ne foglalkozz kötelességeddel, küldetéseddel. A pünkösdi erő tegyen alkalmassá arra, hogy legyőzd a szenvedélyeket, hogy készséggel és vidáman engedelmeskedj Krisztusnak, légy megbocsátó, a szeretet és a békesség hírnöke és cselekvője, megtapasztalva, hogy ebben a Lélektől kapott erőben áll egyedül az Isten országa. l.Korinthusi levél 4:20. Gyülekezeteinkben Isten áldását kérve pünkösd ünnepi istentiszteleteinkre, Isten kegyelmének az Úr asztala melletti megtapasztalása, a mindnyájan egy akarattal való imádkozás meghallgatásának áldott csodája gazdagítsa a Szentlélek áradásnak nagy alkalmát.
