20. oldal MAGYAR EGYHÁZ Hálás szívvel mondunk köszönetét dr. Hunter Erik presbiteri jegyzőnknek, aki sok-sok ezer dolláros kiadástól tehermentesítette Egyházunkat a lépcső megépítésével. HUNGARIAN REFORMED CHURCH 175 Pershing Avenue Carteret, New Jersey 07008 (732) 541-5051 Supply Pastor: Rt. Rev. Stefan M. Török Chief Elder: Mr. Leonard Sendelsky After a long period of silence, we are happy to announce that the Carteret Congregation has been revived with the presence of Rt. Rev. Stefan M. Torok, whom we have accepted as our permanent supply pastor. We are thankful to see a return to home and hospital visitations which Rev. Torok has revived as well as Fellowship Coffee Hours. This summer we bid “God be with you ‘til we meet again “to our sister Mrs. Helen Sipos Sheridan who has moved to Pennsylvania with her niece and the niece’s husband... Helen was bom and raised in the Carteret Church, she has held the unofficial title of “Church Lady.” Helen took care of the altar cloths, ordered holiday flowers, set the Lord’s Table for Holy Communion, and maintained and kept God’s house in order as her health would allow. It was Helen’s bright smile and cherry greeting that welcomed parishioners each Sunday. At a combined worship service on July 16, Chief Elder Mr. Leonard Sendelsky presented Helen with a plaque in grateful appreciation for her dedication to her church. A laser etching of the Carteret Church appears on the plaque as an ever constant reminder to Helen of her beloved church. Flowers decorating the House of God in Helen’s honor were graciously donated by Ms. Lydia Comba. Following the service, a farewell Fellowship Coffee Hour was held. We pray that God will bless Helen and her family as they chart a new course in Pennsylvania. Also, we are happy to announce the banns of marriage between our member Mr. Tibor Varga and Ms. Ann Klaus which will take place on September 23. Rev. Torok will joyfully officiate at the service May God bless their new life together. After an unusually hot summer, we’re looking forward to the crisp coolness of fall. In September we will return to our regular worship schedule, English Service at 9:30 a.m. and Hungarian Service at 11 a.m. Rt.Rev.Stefan M.Török, Pastor MAGYAR REFORMED CHURCH 331 Kirkland Place, Perth Amboy, NJ 08861 Tel:(732)442-7799 Lelkipásztor: Nt.Dr.Kocsis Attila Főgondnok: Ernest Marczi The Magyar Reformed Church on Kirkland Place in Perth Amboy, New Jersey, has, in its 103 years of existence, added much to the history of Perth Amboy. In 1903 a small group of Hungarians held services in the local Presbyterian Church until they could build their own place of worship. The cooperation between the different churches enabled our church to establish itself on Kirkland Place, where a small church was constructed in 1905. We also have been fortunate to have a beautiful parsonage next to the church, as well as a large building that houses classrooms, meeting rooms, two kitchens, a huge social hall with a stage, and a Chapel. In the spirit of good will offered to the Hungarians in the early 1900’s, our church has now opened the doors of our beautiful Chapel, located in our Center at the comer of Kirkland Place and Fayette Street, to a group of Korean people who worship under the Hanwoori Church name, we have enjoyed multi-cultural events with them, such as luncheons and picnics, and look forward to even more such happenings. Over the years some cosmetic changes have been made to the interior of our church, and now we look to the outside of the building. Our stained glass windows are in need of refurbishing, so a Windows Fund has been established in order that the stained glass windows may be re-leaded and otherwise repaired so that they will last another 100 years! Fundraisers in the form of dinners, food sales, auctions, and other events have been planned so that money could be raised for this project. The community has always supported this church, so the hope is that the money will be raised to complete the project this summer.
