8. oldal MAGYAR EGYHÁZ As We Look Ahead - Words from The Past ’’What shall we be? What do we want to be? We say we want to be, to stay a Church. Here we must keep in mind that we cannot hold fast onto what we have by keeping it as it is. A Church cannot be held like a treasure in a safe deposit box. The Church must live. It must grow, it must fight, its must suffer, it must change with the times without conforming to them. The Church does not belong to the Pastor, but it does not belong to the elders or to the members either. The Church belongs to Christ. Therefore, the Church is not for the purpose of nourishing the piety of its members or of simply maintaining its operation. These are but instruments and opportunities. We shall be a Church only if we as a fellowship become the living channel for God's love to others. For this purpose we must constantly look beyond ourselves. In order to hold fast onto what we have received by the grace of God, we must give it away in the name of Christ. In this paradox lies the promise and the future of the Hungarian Church of Carteret. Carteret 1963, Dr. Andrew Harsanyi, Pastor GREETINGS FROM THE BISHOP AND CHIEF ELDER Az Amerikai Magyar Református Egyház hívő népe, presbitériumai és a tisztségviselők nevében Isten iránti hálával köszöntjük a száz esztendős Cartereti Magyar Református Egyház és a kilencven esztendős Roebling-i Magyar Református Egyház tagjait és vezetőit. Demeter Andor, püspök Beke C. Antal, főgondnok In the name of the Church Councils and Congregations of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America we greet with brotherly love the Hungarian Reformed Church of Carteret on the occasion of its 100th, and the Hungarian Reformed Church of Roebling on the occasion of its 90th anniversary of their establishment. May the Lord continue to bless the members of both Congregations. ”Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life”. Revelations 2,10. Peace be with you. With brotherly love, JESUS " At the name of Jesus, every knee shall bow, Every tongue confess Him King of glory now; Tis the Father's pleasure we should call Him Lord, Who from the beginning was the mighty Word. At His voice creation sprang at once to sight, All the angel faces, all the hosts of light; Thrones and dominations, stars upon their way, All the heavenly orders in their great array. Humbled for a season to receive a name From the lips of sinners, unto whom He came; Faithfully He bore it spotless to the last; Brought it back victorious when from death He passed. Name Him, brothers, name Him with love strong as death, But with awe and wonder, and with bated breath; He is God the Savior, He is Christ the Lord, Ever to be worshipped, trusted, and adored, In your hearts enthrone Him, there let Him subdue, All that is not holy, all that is not true; Crown Him as your Captain in temptation's hour, Let His will enfold you in its light and power. Brothers, this Lord Jesus shall return again, With His Father's glory, with His angel train; For all wreaths of empire meet upon His brow, And our hearts confess Him, King of glory now." Andor Demeter, Bishop Anthony C. Beke, Chief Elder Written by Caroline Maria Noel, 1817
