Leslie E Martin, President — NEWS FROM OUR CONGREGATIONS — — EGYHÁZI HÍREK — ALLEN PARK, MICHIGAN Pastors: Dr. Thomas L. Bur bridge, Attila Szemesi 9901 Allen Road, Allen Park, Michigan 48101 Telephone: (313) 382-1001 Chief Elder: Robert Bone The Ecumenical Prayer Service Week has become an eagerly awaited event among the Hungarian churches in our area. Several months ago the American Hungarian Reformed Church of Allen Park hosted the final part of the week long series of prayer services. Those participating in this event at our church were the Holy Cross Hungarian Roman Catholic Church and the Hungarian Baptist Church of Lincoln Park. Father Barnabas Kiss of the Holy Cross Church explained some of the mysteries of the Mass. It was interesting to hear the responses of their choir. The very talented instrumental group of Reverend Herjecki’s Baptist Church was enjoyed by all of us. Our English and Hungarian Choirs also sang. It was a very spiritually inspired evening and it was refreshing to join in fellowship with our Hungarian Christian friends with the same basic and common desire to praise the Lord in word and song. We travel different paths but we shared the same purpose in love to our Lord. Our minister Attila Szemesi was the host Pastor and moderator at our church. After the service, the Hungarian Preservation Circle of our church welcomed everyone to a wonderful assortment of refreshments. The Hungarian Preservation Circle work toward maintaining and promoting Hungarian customs and culture. We began the Easter Celebration of the Resurrection of Jesus Christ on Ash Wednesday with an inspiring message by Rev. Burbridge and prayer by Rev. Szemesi at our evening worship service. Immediately following the Prayer Chain hosted a free Lenten Soup Supper. The noodles (tarhonya) were made by the members of the Prayer Chain. This did not exclude the men. The Prayer Chain recommended the beginning of Lent be marked by a “Random Act of Kindness Days”, to make an effort to be kind when least expected for the following 5 days. During the Easter Holiday our church was busy with English and Hungarian Worship Services on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Sunday Sunrise Service at 7:00 a.m. and our regular Hungarian and English Easter Sunday Service. Holy Communion was served at all occasions. Now, after a long summer, more and more of our members are returning to the regular Sunday Services. Robert J.
