MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 13. oldal — NEWS FROM OUR CONGREGATIONS — — EGYHÁZI HÍREK — PERTH AMBOY, NEW JERSEY Pastor: Stephan Torok, Dean 331 Kirkland Place, Perth Amboy, New Jersey 08861 Telephone: (908) 442-4799 It may sound unbelievable, but the year will soon be over. Where has it gone? It seems it was a short while ago that we began the journey in a New Year, spring, summer and fall is over and winter with its white blanket will be here soon to cover the sins of the earth and we wait again for the warmth of Christmas with its joy of the Savior’s birth. In our church news segment once again, we would like to give our readers an opportunity to see what we are doing, and what are our plans in this last few months. October brought a blessed fellowship into our church. Our members, who have stayed away for the summer months, have returned to worship with us. We were ONE in the holy communion, known as World Wide Holy Communion with our brothers and sisters around the world. On October 8th, Sunday, we witnessed the union of two lovely people, Mr. Steve Blaho Jr., and Ms. Rebecca Burke, in Christian marriage. A week later, on October 21st, Mr. and Mrs. John Hansen renewed their marriage vows on the occasion of their 25th wedding anniversary. On October 29th, we commemorated the great spiritual awakening of the Reformation with Holy Communion. Our assistant was the Rev. Zoltán Kelemen from Hungary, presently studying at Princeton Theological Seminary. On this same day, in the afternoon, the following tombstones were dedicated in our cemetery, Mrs. Elizabeth Rhodes, Mr. Frank Banyacski, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas, Mr. Louis Tibok, and Mr. Albert Corrado. We are grateful for our people who made this service an uplifting one with their attendance. On Sunday, November 5th, Laymen’s Sunday was held at our English Service, conducted by the Sunday School children, their teachers and members of their families. We were happy to know that our work is not in vain. It was wonderful to see our children speaking to us in church. Their program centered around the “Beatitudes”. On Sunday, November 12, combined service was held at 11:00 a.m., which was followed by a Thanksgiving banquet in our church center. Around 250 of the faithful were together, giving thanks for the goodness of the Lord and enjoying the Christian fellowship. On Sunday, November 19, the worship services were conducted by the Et. Rev. Dezső Abraham, Bishop Emeritus, former pastor of the congregation in the absence of Rev. Torok, Pastor, who was invited to conduct the service of installation at the First Hungarian United Church of Christ, in Miami, Florida. Following the English service this Sunday under the sponsorship of the Sunday School, a thanksgiving breakfast was held in the church center. Keeping up with our tradition, an English service was held on the actual day of Thanksgiving, on November 23 at 10:00 a.m. Our Pastor and his wife were on vacation the following Sunday and worship services were conducted by the Rev. Ollie Benko- Hall. Our Advent preparation started on December 3, with Holy Communion. On December 10, beginning at 12:00, noon, under the sponsorship of the Women’s Guild, our Annual Christmas Bazaar was held with great success. On Sunday, December 17, a Christmas Cantata was presented by the Choir and at the beginning of the service, their new robes were dedicated. Holy Communion for our sick and shut-ins were offered the week of December 17 through the 22nd. Christmas caroling, the joyful tradition will be kept alive again in our church, when we visit our church families with the traditional Christmas carols on Thursday and Friday, December 21 and 22. Our holiday services with Holy Communion will be at the following time: on Christmas Eve day, a Hungarian Church service will be held at 10:00 a.m. English Service will be at 7:00 p.m. On Christmas day, English Service with Holy Communion at 9:00 a.m., and Hungarian Service with Holy Communion is at 11:00 a.m. Our holiday closing services will be conducted on Sunday, December 31, at regular Sunday schedule. On New Year’s- Day, we offer an opportunity to all of our members to greet the New Year in the House of Worship at a 10:00 a.m. service. To all of our church members, their families and friends, as well as our readers, we extend our warmest greetings for a peaceful, joyful Merry Christmas, filled with the spirit of the Savior and a Happy New Year!-------------------------------------------------------------------------« A CÍMOLDAL ÉS A 2.
