8. oldal MAGYAR EGYHÁZ Végre elbúcsúzván tóle, Menj el díszesen előtte. Étel előtt asztal áldást, Utána mondj hálaadást. Ne válogass a helyekbe, Ne finnyáskodj az ételbe. A csontokat rakd tányérra, Ne könyökölj az asztalra. Ujjad ne szopd, fogad ne vájd, Ha köhögsz, hát takard a szád, Ha ásítasz a kezedet, Ha tüsszentesz zsebkendődet Tedd a szádra, ne fújj másra, Hogy ne legyen annak kára. THE MEETING OF THE BISHOFS COUNCIL The Bishop’s Council of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America held its meeting on May 28,1994 in Perth Amboy, New Jersey. The meeting was called to order by Rt. Rev. Dr. Andrew Harsanyi, Bishop. The following members of the Bishop’s Council were in attendance: Dr. Andrew Harsanyi, Bishop, Mr. Stephen Szabó Chief- Elder of the Synod, Mr. Zoltán Ambrus Secretary of the Synod, Miss Priscilla Hunyady Treasurer of the Synod. Representing the three Classis Rev. Andor Demeter Dean of the Western Classis, Rev. Alexander Forro Dean of the New York Classis, Mr. László B. Vanyi Chief Elder of the New York Classis, Rev. Stefan M. Torok Dean of the Eastern Classis, Mr. Balint Balogh Chief Elder of the Eastern Classis, Rt. Rev. D.D. Dezső Abraham, Bishop Emeritus and Mr. Anthony C. Beke former Chief-Elder of the Synod. Absent were Rev. Pal Mezo Ecclesiastical Secretary and Mr. Zoltán Kun Chief Elder of the Western Classis. The meeting was opened with a devotion offered by Rt. Rev. Dr. Andrew Harsanyi Bishop. The Bishop has requested the Secretary Mr. Ambrus to read the minutes of the previous Bishop’s Council Meeting. A motion was made by the attended members to accept the minutes without reading since it had been made available earlier and all in attendance had the privilege of reading it and no one had found any errors. Bishop Harsanyi extended a word of thanks to the Secretary for a job well done. The Bishop also requested the Treasurer Miss Priscilla Hunyady to give us a report on the financial situation of the Synod. Miss Priscilla Hunyady gave her report which she indicated is only a preliminary report since many of the congregations usually meet their obligations toward the end of the year. Miss Hunyady also gave a report on the financial condition of our Mission Fund and since she recently also took over the treasury of the Official Publication of the Synod she gave a preliminary report on the contributions of the congregations. During the report questions were raised by the Council Members about the decision of the Allen Park Church Council to reduce the number of issues of the Magyar Egyház from their original copies of over 330 to just 50. Without any notice to either Bishop Harsanyi who is the Editor in Chief of the Publication, nor to Rev. Torok who is the Editor of the Publication. Questions were raised as to whether the Allen Park Church would be billed for the issues they have received during the last year. A decision was made that we should request payment from the Allen Park Church for the previous year’s issues, and comply with their request to send only 50 copies of the paper to the Church’s address. The morning session continued when Bishop Harsanyi requested the Deans of the Classes to give their reports on the life of the congregations in their respective Classis. Rev. Andor Demeter in his report indicated that most of the congregations continue their life without any problems, while others are in the process of handling some of their problems. Rev. Demeter indicated that the situation at our Ontario, Calif, congregation is still not settled, and when it seems that there is peace immediately some of the former members of the congregation create a difficult situation for both the Pastor and members. Rev. Demeter also indicated that our Allen Park congregation is still in the process of selecting a Senior Pastor. All indications are that the Senior Pastor’s position may be filled with an all English speaking Pastor, who might not have any Hungarian background. Rev. Lassú, the recently elected Hungarian pastor, arrived with his family to the congregation and has started his work to the satisfaction of the members. His election, Rev. Demeter indicated, will be confirmed at the meeting of the Western Classis to be held in June. Rev. Demeter also indicated that he has very little knowledge of what is going on in Duquesne, since
