1 MAGYAREGYHÁZ 11. oldal appointment of the following committees: Recommendations and Financial. Due the needed work of these committees the Dean called for a recess. Upon reconveying, the committees made their reports. Most notable from the recommendations committee is the request made to the Assembly by the Washington, D.C. congregation in which they requested the Classis to grant them change of status from a mission congregation to a regular congregation. Since all applications and requests were made in a proper order, the Recommendation Committee joyfully fulfilled their request. The Dean informed the representatives of the congregation if they have any problems they can count on him. All recommendations were accepted by the Assembly and will be communicated to the churches. The Financial Committee found all records in order and made recommendations toward the disbursement of the available funds. All recommendation made the Committee has been approved. The date of next year’s Assembly was set for the first Sunday of March 1995. The Assembly was closed at 6:20 p.m. The Chief Elder of the Trenton Congregation Mr. Les Martin extended an invitation to everyone to join them in a Fellowship Dinner. CHURCH WOMEN UNITED 35TH ANNUAL CONFERENCE The Eastern area Church Women United Conference was held on May 1st at the Magyar Reformed Church of Perth Amboy, New Jersey. Delegates from the following churches were present: Carteret N.J. Cliffside N.J. Linden N.J. New Brunswick N.J. Perth Amboy N.J. Poughkeepsie N.Y. Roebling N.J. and Trenton N.J. total of 71 delegates were present. The Conference opened with devotions: Opening Invitation was offered by the Host Church Rev. Stefan M. Torok Pastor. Hungarian Scripture reading was done by the delegate from Poughkeepsie, English Scripture was offered by a delegate from Carteret. Special Choir Hymn was sung by the Perth Amboy Church Choir. English Prayer was offered by a delegate from Roebling and Hungarian Prayer by a delegate from Perth Amboy. The President of the 35th Annual Conference of the Church Women United extended an invitation to all and introduced our speaker for the Conference Mrs. Alice Muldrow member of the 2nd Baptist Church known as the “Cathedral” from Perth Amboy. The theme of the Conference was “Reach Up and Reach Out.” The speaker explained to the members, that it is very important to have a personal faith in Jesus Christ and that we must reach up to Him is we want to reach out to our brothers and sisters in need and desire to communicate our faith to them. The lecture was followed with questions and answers. During the business meeting the following leaders of the Church extended greetings to the Conference. It behalf of Dr. Andrew Harsanyi Bishop, the Rev. Stefan M. Torok Pastor communicated the greetings wishing our women a fruitful conference. Bishop Harsanyi asked to be excused due to his health. In behalf of the Lay leaders Mr. Stephen Szabó Chief Elder of the Synod extended greetings to the conference. In behalf of the Calvin Synod Dr. Francis Vitéz Bishop welcomed the delegates into our city and wished a successful conference. In behalf of the New York Classis Rev. Alexander Forro extended greetings to the Conference. After reading of the minutes by Mrs. Gizell Bertha and treasurer’s report offered by Miss Priscilla Hunyady new business was discussed. The Church Women United offered financial assistance to Mr. Tamas Devecseri who presently studying for the Christian Ministry at New Brunswick Theological Seminary and upon the completion of his studies desires to serve our hungarian church community. Also the Conference offered financial assistance to our ministers who continue their education at Princeton Seminary. Rev. Marianna Király from Hungary and Rev. Zoltán Korda from Transylvania, who completed their education at Princeton on May 16th of this year. The meeting continued with the election of new officers for the following year. The New President of the Church Women United elected was Mrs. Brigitta Dorko from the New Brunswick Church, indicating that where the next years conference is going to be held. Vice-President was elected from Roebling where our 1996 Conference will be held. Since the women’s Guild did not have their meeting the Roebling Church will communicate their selection for this position in the very near future. Secretary was elected from New Brunswick, but since they were also unprepared with a specific name they will also communicate their selection in the future. Treasurer elected was Miss Priscilla Hunyady from Linden. Delegates at large were selected from Poughkeepsie N.Y. Staten Island N.Y. Chaplain for the Conference in traditions of the past will become the former President Mrs. Jeannie Talbott from Perth Amboy. The Oath of Office was administered by Rev. Stefan M. Torok Dean of the Eastern Classis. A presentation of the praying hands was made in behalf of last year’s president Mrs. Helen Dodge from Carteret in her absence by the host pastor. The 35th Annual Conference concluded with the singing of the Hymn “God be with you till we meet again” theme song of the Church Women United by all. The Host Congregation extended a warm welcome to fellowship diner in the Church Center. “God be with us until we meet again on May 7th 1995.”
