THE NEW AND REVISED COOK BOOK is now available from the Women’s Guild HUNGARIAN REFORMED CHURCH 331 Kirkland Place Perth Amboy, NJ 08861 Price: $4.00 plus Pastage of $1.25 PERTH AMBOY, NJ By the grace of God, our congregational life in these months is very busy and our activities are manyfold. On the first Sunday in March the Oath of Office was administered to the Members and Officers of the Church Council elected by the Annual Meeting of the Congregation in February. Signifying their unity in the service of the Lord, Corporate Holy Communion was served. On this same Sunday the Women’s Guild marked the 45th Anniversary of their existance. The Guild members also received Corporate Holy Communion. We recalled the life of its founder the late Mrs. Helen Vincze, wife of the former pastor Rev. Dr. Charles Vincze, under whose direction and spiritual guidance the Guild was organized. Special celebration is planned by the members on May 19th. With the arrival of the Lenten season the first time in the history of the Perth Amboy Hungarian Churches (2 catholic, 2 reformed), the four congregations held joint mid-week Lenten services — always hosting the service at their particular church. The attendance at these services were exceptionally good. This provided an opportunity to our members to get to know the congregational life and liturgy of another church. We must honestly say that the priests and pastors enjoy a good understanding. On March 15th, again under the sponsorship of the 4 congregations, we commemorated the independence struggle of 1848, with a Flag Raising ceremony in front of City Hall, and with a special program at Our Lady of Hungary, Mindszenty Hall. Attendance was excellent. On the first Sunday of April — Passion Sunday -— we witnessed a special service conducted by our Choir and church members, consisting of Hymns, songs and scripture depicting the most important elements of our Saviour’s life. On April 11th, Saturday, under the sponsorship of the Christian Education Committee, special festivities were held known as the “Spring Fair.” The celebration contained the Easter Program, and also provided a good Christian Fellowship to all who attended. We look forward with much anticipation to the announced arrival and concert of the Kolozsvár Reformed High School Choir, and their announced concert in Perth Amboy, hosted by our church on April 15th, Wednesday on Holy Week. We find it difficult to secure housing for them so close to the holydays. At the end of the month under the sponsorship of the Women’s Guild we held a very successful Rummage Sale held on April 23rd and 24th. We truly appreciate all the help that is provided by our members. We know very much that only if we cooperate can we accomplish greater things in the name of the Lord.
