MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 11. oldal ALLEN PARK, Ml VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL IN ALLEN PARK It was an “Island In The Son” that nearly 80 young people and 40 teachers and support staff visited in June at the Hungarian Reformed Church. Using 1. Corinthians 13. as the Biblical basis and the island paradise theme as the setting, the children and adults spent two weeks learning more about God’s love for us and about the type of love we should share with other people. Each day began with a program of singing and a puppet show, which acted out the theme for the day. Next followed Bible study and classroom time, crafts, games and, of course, snacks. Each day’s program closed with young people reciting the Bible verses they learned that day. Several of the classes visited homebound church members and those living in one of the nursing homes. An offering was taken each day which was donated as camp scholarship money for inner city children. On the evening of the last day students and parents gathered for a fun-filled closing program. The children sang for their parents, recited Bible verses and in other ways, shared their good experience at Vacation Bible School. Following the program in church the more than 100 people present enjoyed an ice cream and fresh fruit reception hosted by Branch 35 of the Hungarian Reformed Federation. This was the fourth year of our new Vacation Bible School program. By the grace of God, each year has witnessed more and more young people and adults becoming involved. Indeed our two weeks together this year affirmed again the truth of 1. Corinthians 13:13: “And now abide faith, hope, love . . . but the greatest of htese is love.” We thank God! PERTH AMBOY, NJ In these summer months when all church activities, except church services and pastoral work takes a slower pace, there is very small amount that one can report as special news on the life of the congregation. It is with this in mind, that we relate the following report to our readers. On the First Sunday of June the church was filled with the worshippers, that were brought together by the Spirit of God on the Holiday of Pentecost, the birthday of the Christian Church, that with humble and repentant hearts we may become partakers of the Holy Supper. In the beginning of the month Ilona, the daughter of our pastor also made her visit from Phoenix to Perth Amboy, that at the time of farewell, one may travel back to her loved ones and the Pastor and his family may return after 22 years of absence, and thanks to the changing situations in Eastern Europe to his family in Zemplen County, now part of Czechoslovakia. In his three weeks visit, the church services and other ministerial duties were covered by the Rt. Rev. Dezső Ábrahám, Bishop Emeritus, and former pastor of the Perth Amboy Congregation. It is with gratitude that we express our thanks for his services among us. Upon the Pastor’s return from Europe, we tried to revive the Summer Vacation Bible School, that has been offered every summer to our youth. We are sorry to say that with the lack of interest, we were unable to organize the Vacation Bible School this year. On the first Sunday in August, according to traditions we gathered again around the Lord’s Table in thanksgiving for the new bread. Our assistant was the Rev. Peter Toth, Pastor from Hungary who completed his Master of Theology Degree studies in Princeton Seminary. In the middle of August, our pastor together with the members of our youth participated in the Summer Youth Camp in Laurelville, PA. We look forward together with our elders to be present at the Presbyter’s Conference and Ministerial meetings on Labor Day Weekend in Ligonier. YOUNGSTOWN, OH Reverend (now Dr.) Fuleki has graduated on May 19th receiving his Doctor of Ministry degree from Ashland Theological Seminary. The church honored Dr. Fuleki with a dinner on June 23. Dr. Fuleki wants to thank all the members who attended the graduation ceremony and shared his joy. Bible Study is going to discontinue for the months of June, July and August; it will begin again in September. Among the well attended and successful affairs was a Giant Eagle Celebration Luncheon hosted by the Sisters in Friendship and a Father’s Day Dinner sponsored by the Ladies Aid.
