8. oldal MAGYAR EGYHÁZ AMERICAN HUNGARIAN REFORMED PRESBYTER'S ASSOCIATION Dear Presbyter, We hope that you have already been making plans to attend the 44ht Annual Meeting of the AMERICAN HUNGARIAN REFORMED PRESBYTER’S ASSOCIATION. This year’s meeting is scheduled for Sunday, September 2, 1990 and Monday, September 3, 1990. As usual, it will be held at the Bethlen Home, Ligonier, Pennsylvania. If you are not familiar with the area, Ligonier is approximately ten miles north of exit 9 of the Pennsylvania Turnpike. We are looking forward to meeting with you and hope that you will bring your family (who are also invited to attend the meeting) since there is much to do and see in the area. This will not only entertain them, but also enlighten them about Colonial America and life in the mountains of Pennsylvania. The Bethlen Home has made the usual facilities available for the meeting and we are striving to formalize the attached tentative agenda. Should you have any questions or suggestions, please call our president, Anthony C. Beke (609) 298-2988 after 9:00 p.m. EST. We hope that you will be able to obtain accommodations at the Lord Ligonier Inn so that we can all be together. Their telephone number is (412) 238-9545. They are anticipating our arrival and have agreed to dedicate a number of rooms for our reservation requests. When making your reservations — be sure to tell them that you are attending the AMERICAN HUNGARIAS REFORMED PRESBYTER’S ASSOCIATION meeting. Otherwise you may be told that there are no vacancies. We hope that you have had a safe and enjoyable summer and please join us in Ligonier this Labor Day weekend to make this meeting a success. He succeeds the late Bishop Albert Klein (no relation). JAN MICHALKO, General Bishop of the Lutheran Church in Slovakia retired after two decades in service. He was charged by many of his critics of having been too closely linked with and submissive to the former communist government. His defenders say he helped protect church life during the time of communist rule. General Secretary Myroslav Kyska also resigned and was succeeded by József Farkas. MEETING OF THE CARIBBEAN AND NORTH AMERICAN AREA COUNCIL, WARC The area meeting of the Caribbean and North American section of the World Alliance of the Reformed Churches met between March 8-11 in Stony Point, New York. In the absence of our Bishop being out of the country, has appointed me, as Editor of our church publication, to participate at this very important meeting. Regretfully, due to church commitments in my congregation, I was unable to attend this meeting. However, I would like to share with the readers of the Magyar Egyház, some decisions, that this meeting brought forth concerning the churches in Eastern Europe. The following is the text of a letter, approved at the general assembly on March 10, 1990. TO: Our Brothers and Sisters in the Reformed Churches in Eastern Europe FROM: The Member Churches of the Caribbean and North American Area, Council of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches Meeting at Stony Point, NY, March 8-11, 1990.
