MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 15. oldal CARTERET, NJ Dear Friends and Church Members: As you probably heard by now I was called to be the new Pastor of our church in Montreal, Canada, The Hungarian United Church. I shall start my services there as of October 29, 1989. Our last Sunday will be that of October 22, 1989 here in Carteret. Reminiscing about the eight (8) years my family and I spent among you here in Carteret, I just realized that these eight years were the longest time I ever lived in one place. Careret became a home for us through the years. They were 8 creative years, blessed by God. Through His everlasting mercy I was able to rebuild the physical aspect of the church by renovations, as well as the spiritual aspect, by maintaining church membership at a stable level, when our youth is leaving town for better job opportunities. I was always proud of our church families, whose children all attended College and became professionals, even though it meant a loss for our congregation, because they settled somewhere else. Through the untiring work and enthusiasm of the LÓ- rántffy Women’s Guild and the reorganized Men’s Club we were able to tripple the church’s cash assets. Also the 20 year Lease of the West Carteret lot to Hermann’s, after 40 year of not being utilized, adds to our financial stability. I would like to thank Leonard Sendelsky, Chief Elder and all the Elders present and past, for their cooperation and support. I also would like to thank Marge DeStefano and Ernie Jenei, presidents of our organizations and their members present and past for their loving support. Special thanks to Joe and Marge Kara who took upon themselves the unthankful task of organizing and running the Atlantic City trips, within our Men’s Club, which is our biggest annual fundraising event. Thanks to Bill Schurr our organist for the last 8 years he was always there on funerals and services. Thanks to Alice Kovács who reorganized the financial books, and Mary Fischer who took over the books and envelopes. I also would like to thank my wife Ilona for sharing in the ministry to our Sunday School, and ask God’s blessings on the new Superintendent Zsuzsanna Prundl and all our wonderful teachers present and past. There are many others that I would mention but each one of you knows in your hearts what you have truly done for your church and community. God will certainly repay you for your efforts. I am proud that my family and I were able to conrtibute eight good years of our youthful energy and talents to the Carteret Community. Carteret was home not only to us, but for our children András who was only 5 month old when we arrived, Dani who was born here and Anikó and Martha who both were born here. We shall cherish the happy moments and years we spent in Carteret. God be with you till we meet again ... Yours in Christ Rev. Gábor G. Nitsch your Pastor Our new address: Rev. and Mrs. Gábor Nitsch, Hungarian United Church, 50 Graham Boulevard, Montreal, Quebec H3P 2C1 — (514) 731-5732 — Canada. PERTH AMBOY, NJ In the months of September and October, by the recommendation of the Christian Education Committee, and the approval of the Church Council we instituted a “Pilot Program” in our congregation changing the format of the Sunday Worship Schedule, which is as follows: Christian Fellowship under the leadership of the Pastor, where we are studying the “Lost Books of the Bible” and hold Worship Service for our Sunday School children in the Church Center Chapel at 9:00 a.m. Our English Service and Sunday School, where we provide lessons from Nursery age up to Confirmation satrts at 9:30 a.m. Our Hungarian Church Service starts at 11:00 a.m. Since the change was scheduled only for two months, at our next Council Meeting the “Pilot Program” will be evaluated, and if permanent change is to be instituted, the decision will rest with the Congregation at a future date. Holy Communion was observed on the first Sunday of September “Labor Day Sunday,” also on this weekend seven of our elders participated at the Presbyter’s Conference in Ligonier, PA. Our Pastor, who was the Secretary of the Hungarian Minister’s Association took part in the Labor Day Conference in Ligonier, PA. Special celebrations were planned to honor Mrs. Lillian Banyacski, our church organist on September 17th with a Testimonial Banquet on the occasion of her 40th Anniversary as Church Organist. However, due to the sadness of Mr. Joseph Banyacski’s death, celebrations have been canceled. Special Presentations were made to Mrs. Lillian Banyacski on Sunday, September 24th, during Combined Divine Worship Services. A Special Congregational Meeting was held on this day, following services on the subject of the Pastor’s request on relocation. On this subject further information and the result of the decisions will be made later. On October 1st, according to our Church traditions, Holy Communion was served in accordance with Worldwide Holy Communion. Participation was very satisfactory. On October 7th under the sponsorship of the Women’s Guild a traditional “Grape Festival Dance” was held in the Church Center. Music for listening and dancing pleasure was offered by “Gypsy Joe and his orchestra.” Many of our church members and outsiders came together at this occasion to remember the joyful time of grape harvest.
