12. oldal MAGYAR EGYHÁZ In his lecture, Mr. Beke expressed a need for Christian education, not only for the youngest members of the church, namely those who are before confirmation, but also for those who once have made their commitment to the Church in their Confirmation. Mr. Beke said, “we are fighting a battle not only for our own salvation, but also in behalf of those who are entrusted upon us in the churches.” The lecture was very well received by all in attendance. Mrs. Margarite Beke expressed her thanks for the speaker in behalf of all women. The conference continued with a working group session, when all in attendance were separated to three groups: those dealing with the Christian Education of the young, those in the Youth Fellowship, or interested in working with the young adults and those interested in adult Bible studies. The working session lasted for a period of 20 minutes. The working groups then reported back to the general assembly, which was followed by further discussion. Once all items have been discussed the Conference held its regular business meeting. After reading the minutes both in English and Hungarian, the Treasurer’s report was read. Discussions followed as to the assistance or wirthwhile subjects. The Women’s Conference assigned the following financial assistance: financial help to our seminary students, to our sister churches in the various parts of the world who are in need, such as in Western Europe and South America, and also offered their financial assistance and prayer to the Hungarian Refugees who left Rumania, now living in Hungary. The final act of the Conference was the election of the new officers: The new President of the Church Women United will be from the Staten Island Church, where the next conference will be held: new President is Mrs. Alice Radvansky, secretary from the Staten Island Church to assist the president was elected Alice Rodvanski. Treasurer as in the past was offered to stay on, since it takes too much problems to change bank, Mrs. Elizabeth Dudich was reelected. Members at large from the various churches were appointed. The new officers were installed by Rev. Stefan M. Torok, Dean of the Eastern Classis. In behalf of the retiring officers, Mrs. Margarite Beke expressed thanks and appreciation for the trust and confidence placed in them. The retiring president then was presented with a plaque. Concluding the conference Mrs. Beke extended an invitation to all those in attendance to a Fellowship Dinner, hosted by the members of the Trenton Women’s Guild. Truly it was a time of joy to see each other at this year’s conference, and we parted with the thought of seeing each other at the next year conference in Staten Island on the first Sunday of 1990. — NEWS FROM OUR CONGREGATIONS — — EGYHÁZI HÍREK — ALLEN PARK, Ml Lelkipásztorok: ifj. Atyánkfia 1955. november 2-án született Sátoraljaújhelyen, Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén megyében Magyarországon. Mádon nevelkedett föl és kezdte meg iskoláit, gimnáziumi érettségi bizonyítványát a miskolci Kilián György Gimnáziumban szerezte meg. A középiskola elvégzése után az életcélja a tanári hivatás volt. Azután, hogy ez nem valósulhatott meg, dolgozni kezdett. Először közel egy esztendőt töltött a Magyar Folyamhajózási Rt.-nál matrózként. Azután visszakerülve falujába a szomszéd kisvárosban, Szerencsen, teljesít másfél évig mentőápolói szolgálatot. Innén továbblépve a kórház sebészeti osztályára került és dolgozott mint műtőasszisztens egy esztendeig. Ezek az évek mind ismeret, mind tapasztalatszerzés terén előrehaladást jelentettek számára. A magyarországi református egyházzal való személyes kapcsolata vasárnapi iskolás éveivel kezdődött abban a gyülekezetben, ahol megkeresztelték, ahol nagyapja hosszú időn át az egyházközség kurátora volt, és ahol lelkipásztora hűséges szolgálata nyomán konfirmált. Az ezt követő években az ifjúsági csoport tevékeny életén keresztül adott elé az Űr számtalan örömteli alkalmat közel lenni hozzá és neki szolgálni. így növekedve a hitben, értette meg Urának elhívó szavát a lelki szolgálatra, amit munkával töltött évei után kezdett meg a Debreceni Református Teológiai Akadémián való felkészülés éveivel. Tanulmányai közben egy évig diakóniai szolgálatot teljesített egy szeretetotthonban. 1981-ben eredményes alapvizsga után exmittált teológusként felhatalmazást nyert gyülekezeti szolgálatra a Tiszáninneni Egyházkerületben. Az igrici és geleji gyülekezetben töltött három év után, 1984-ben, új szolgálati helye Olaszliszka és Tolcsva lett áldott lehetőségekkel. Egy évvel később a szilvásváradi gyülekezetbe nyert áthelyezést és szolgált az időközben megüresedő nagyvisnyói egyházközségben is. 1987 augusztusában érkezett meg családjával: feleségével és fiával Michigan államba, Byron Centerbe. Sponsoruk a First Christian Reformed Church segítette őket elindulni és beilleszkedni az itteni életbe. Ferenc custodian lett a Christian Schoolban, felesége, Katalin egy üdvözlő lapokat elosztó cégnél dolgozott, fiúk József pedig a Junior High-ba, majd pedig a South Christian High Schoolba járt. Mindannyian hálásak az Úrnak, hogy szolgálati lehetőséget adott eléjük a nagy és jelentős múlttal bíró Allen Park-i gyülekezetben.
