Azután mind a kettőtöknek, akik jól munkálkodtatok itt. Áldjon meg az Űr benneteket az elkövetkező esztendőkben is: szeretetével egymás iránt, és az Ö népe iránt is. Hirdessétek azért az igét, amint Isten vezet és erőt ád hozzá ! Nt. Bertalan A. Imre társlelkész Az Egyház nevében "TO GOD BE THE GLORY" August 28, 1988 “And how terrible it would be for me if I did not preach the gospel/” .......I Cor. 9sl6 Some 50 years ago there arose in the heart of a young man the call to Christian ministry, God chose this young man very carefully; He had much for him to do. The road ahead would he long and often challenging. But the Good News had to be shared. The gospel had to be preached. Ministry for the young man began in the land of his birth. It was to continue five years later in a new land half a world away. In cities named Soltvadkert and Fot, Budapest and Glasgow, Princeton, Roebling and Perth Amboy the young man served as pastor and counselor, editor and community leader, dean and bishop. The young man married and together with his lovely wife he continued to preach the gospel and serve Christ’s church. Together, in 1974, they came to Allen Park. Together they began sowing the seeds of friendship and love, seeds of reconciliation and hope and peace. Our young man had grown in age, in wisdom, in experience, but at the heart of his ministry was still the need to preach Christ’s gospel. For fourteen years he did this with a strong voice and from a good heart, serving not only our congregation, but also the entire community, along with the larger Hungarian Reformed Church in America. Bishop and Mrs. Abraham, Dezső bácsi and Margit néni; the members and friends of the Hungarian Reformed Church gather today in thanksgiving and in tribute. To the God who called you and who led you here we give thanks. To both of you, who served us so well, we pay tribute. May God bless you in the years ahead with your continuing love for each other and for your people and with His love for you.. . and may you continue to preach the gospel, as God gives you guidance and strength. In Behalf of Your Congregation, Rev. Imre A Bertalan, Assoc. Pastor The following letter from the Chief Elder was a part of the Banquet Booklet and it conveys the deep feelings and love that exists between Bishop Ábrahám, the Church leaders and the Congregation. RT. REV. DEZSŐ ÁBRAHÁM Bishop Emeritus On behalf of the Church Council and the Congregation of the Allen Park Hungarian Reformed Church, we wish to thank you for your many years of devoted service. I am very happy and pleased that I was able to be a part of the church’s unanimous call that brought you to God’s church here in Allen Park. Those were troubled years when you arrived. Under your pastoral leadership a spiritual awakening began and love, unity and harmony were restored to the church. Over the years as we toiled together in God’s work there developed a deep feeling of admiration and respect. In your lifelong ministry you exemplified a minister’s humble, devoted and dedicated life and you have been a role model for young ministers. Your help and guidance to them will always be remembered. Your diligent work and the many improvements in the quality of our church life has been very much appreciated. Your special prayers and time spent with our ailing and beraved brethren will live in our memories forever. The hours you have devoted in the various activities for community churches and organizations has been abundant and helpful and your presence in the Metropolitan Detroit area will be deeply missed. It has been rewarding to work and pray with you these many years, and speaking for myself and the congregation, we wish you and Margaret God’s abiding love throughout your retirement years. May they be many and may they be filled with much happiness and good health. Edmund Vig, Chief Elder NT. BERTALAN A. IMRE
