MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 13. oldal process, and that wherever feasible we speak together in joint official statements on peace and other major social issues.” The document also examines the topic of religion and schools, as an example of an area where churches might cooperate in dialogue when they share an underlying unity of vision even though differing on particular policy judgements. Catholic and Presbyterian/Reformed churches agree, in the document, that education about religion should play a more prominent role than it currently does in public school education in the U.S. “Although the historical, literary, cultural, and philosophical study of religion is permitted, the common, although dubious, interpretation of the separation of church and state makes such a study rare,” the document observes. “Thus most American children attend state-sponsored schools which are funded by all taxpayers and which are not only prevented from promoting any particular religion, but which avoid those permitted treatments of religion which are surely necessary for a complete education.” — NEWS FROM OUR CONGREGATIONS — — EGYHÁZI HÍREK — ALLEN PARK, Ml The congregation observed the 20th anniversary of erecting the present church edifice in Allen Park on September 15th. Congregational worship services are held regularly, however, attendance is very low. At the beginning of July our pastor and his wife together with daughter Ilona spent a quiet vacation down the Jersey shore. Our Vacation Bible School, even though only a short week from July 15th, showed that interest within our young is still alive and well. We would like to extend our gratitude to the teachers, Pamela Lovász, Jean Talbott, Eileen Sautner, Carol Latkovich, Cindy Torok and helpers Lori Latkovich and Linda Pirigyi for their assistance in bringing another successful vacation school to our children. Special thanks to Mr. Gabriel Silagyi for driving our church bus during the school days. At the time of this report, our young people are anxiously preparing for the Summer Youth Camp. We hope that in coming years greater interest can be generated among our young people to attend the conference. We are also happy to report that inspite of the summer months our Bible Study Groups, twice a week, go in full force. We extend an invitation to those who are interested to study the Bible with us. Vital Statistics: Baptisms: at the end of June we received into the membership of the church Jonathan Ernest, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Marczi. God’s blessings be upon this young life.
