Judge Alex Eger Jr. was nominated for re-election as Counsellor of the Synod. He was elected unanimously. The Rev. S. Forró, Ms. P. Hunyady were sworn in by Bishop Ábrahám. 6. The Rev. Dr. Adrew Harsányi was nominated and unanimously appointed as the Church’s Ecumenical Relations Officer. He will be a member of the General Assembly as well as of the Bishop’s Council in an advisory (consultant) capacity without the right to vote. 7. In the absence of General Secretary Dömötör the minutes of the previous General Assembly were read by the Rev. Stephen Kovács, who as a matter of fact, had taken those minutes in 1978. The minutes were referred to the respective committee for examination. 8. Bishop Ábrahám presented his Report to the General Assembly in full. In the course of his report, at his request, the General Assembly remembered with a minute of silent prayer the ministers and officers who had passed away during the last four years. The Bishop’s Report was received with appreciation and referred to the respective committees for discussion and action. 9. Chief Elder John Nemish, in his brief report, thanked the General Assembly for his re-election and pledged his continued devoted services. 10. Report of the Classes: a. the Rev. Dr. Harsanyi reported on the state of the congregations in the Eastern Classis. b. the Rev. Gábor Csordás reported on the state of the New York Classis listing the congregations one by one. c. in the absence of Dean Dömötör, Bishop Ábrahám gave a brief report on congregations in the Western Classis. The classes report were accepted with appreciation. 11. Bishop Ábrahám appointed the following committees: a. Finance; b. Recommandations and Resolutions; c. Synod Judicial Commission. 12. The General Assembly was recessed by the Bishop at 12:15 for lunch. 13. The afternoon session was reconvened at 2:30 with hymn singing. 14. Dr. Harsányi gave a brief report on various ecumenical affairs in which he actively participated in the past years. These activities are within the framewrok of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches of which our denomination is a constituent member. The Roman Catholic Reformed/Presbyterien Consultation (dialogue), of which he is a co-chairman, is now in its 20th year of operation; the current three year cycle deals with relationships between Church and State. 15. The General Assembly was recessed at 2:45 for committee work. 16. The General Assembly was reconvened at 4:45 for committee reports 1. the minutes of the 1978 General Assembly were recommended for approval. It was unanimously passed. The General Assembly accepted the report and directed the treasurer to follow the current procedure. The Rev. Gábor Nitsch reported the following recommendations of the Committee on recommendations. 1. that the Bishop’s Report to this General Assembly be accepted with appreciation unanimously approved,', 2. After explanation by Mr. Beke, a lengthy discussion and final clarification by Mr. Eger, both this amendment of Amentment No 1. and the Amendment No 1. were rejected by the G.A.; Amendment No 2. concerning the Synod Treasurer’s membership in the Bishop’s Council was unanimously accepted by the G. A.; 3. that the G. A. should go on record that the Hungarian Church of the Reformation of Miami, Florida has not applied to the Synod for admission to membership in the Hungarian Reformed Church in America the G. A. ordered to record this in the minutes', 4. that the Rev. István Török Editor and Rev. Gábor Nitsch, co-editor of Magyar Egyház be also the financial manager of this publication unanimously approved', 5. that the congregations be called upon to give greater support for the participation of their children in the youth conferences and the Summer Youth Camp unanimously accepted and asked the Bishop and Deans for implementation of this appeal', 6. that in accordance with the June 14, 1982 recommendation of the Bishop’s Council the further deepening of relationships with all Hungarian Reformed congregations which are in kinship with us in faith, service and governance be strongly encouraged unanimously accepted. 7. that since we have no report on the present status of the Károlyi Gáspár Ministerial Training School the Bishop’s Council examine and evaluate the financial as well as the educational state of said school unanimously accepted (motion by Priscilla Hunyady, 17. At this point the Rev. Nitsch and the Rev. Török gave a status-report on Magyar Egyház. The change in editorship and management has been completed. The printing of the paper may soon be brought over from Cleveland to the East; financial negotiations are in progress but regular contributions from the member churches are existential. Mr. Edmund Vig reported on the work and recommendations of the Synod Judicial Commission. 1. authorize the Synod Counsellor to advise the Akron congregation that their letter informing about the possible withdrawal of the congregation from our communion is contrary to the by-laws. 20. Bishop Ábrahám thanked all officers and participants for their work, Bethlen Home for its hospitality. 21. After singing a closing hymn (E gyülekezeten), the G. A. was adjourned and dismissed with the Bishop pronouncing the benediction at 6:12 p.m.
