MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 13. oldal to say that the dinner was free of charge to those participating. On November 11th, Friday, a number of our members attended the 24th Annual Hungarian Protestant Ball. We are happy to inform you, that Helen A. Jenkins a member of our church was one of the happy recepients of the Scholarship offered by the Ball. On Nov. 19th, Saturday we commemorated the 80th Anniversary of our church and the 25th Anniversary of the building of our Church Center. During a Dinner Dance all of us had a wonderful time. On Nov. 24th —- during an English service we expressed our gratitude to the Lord for all His benefits. December 4th, Sunday was the day of our Annual Christmas Bazaar. Attendance was so great, that we could use a bigger hall. In preparation for the Christmas Holidays, a special Christmas Cantata presentation was held with our two Church Choirs on Dec. 18. Christmas Caroling is planned for Dec. 20 and 21st. We hope that our members will welcome us with great joy. Christmas Eve the pastor of the congregation and Cynthia Banyacski, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Banyacski will be united in marriage. The wedding service will be conducted by Rev. Gabor G. Nitsch, best friend of the pastor. Holiday Services: Combined Christmas Eve service at 7:00 p.m. Christmas Day: English at 9:00, Hungarian at 11:00 — both with Holy Communion. ROEBLING, NJ There is an important spirit of “newness” which is surging through the life of our church. In September we baptized Matthew Michael, the son of Michelle and Michael Scott. In this month of November we will be baptizing Matthew Jason, son of Rick and Susie Scassero. The presence of the new life within the congregation is always upbuilding to the spirit, as well as the body. We are very thankful for our “Matthews.” In October we held a very successful Kolbas Sale; the whole neighborhood smelled like garlic — wonderful! We, also, happily celebrated the 70th Anniversary of the life of our Church by sharing in a delicious covered-dish meal, and a time of fellowship during which we viewed slides that took us on a journey through our history. We praise God for our 70 years as a church family, and eagerly look forward to the next 70! November brought us the joyous occasion of the ordination of our new pastor Rev. Lisa Von Pier. On Nov. 6, more than 30 people from our church traveled to Perth Amboy, to share in a very special ordination service where Lisa was ordained along with three other Hungarian Reformed ministers. It was an important day in the life of our church, as well as in the life of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America. Our celebrating, however, did not end on the 6th, the next Sunday we held a wonderful sit-down dinner, organized by the Women’s Guild to continue to share in the celebration with one another and with Lisa’s family and friends. Then, after the dinner, everyone went down to the newly “spruced-up” parsonage to participate in an open house offered by Rev. Von Pier. The open house was a way for Lisa to say “Thank You” to her congregation for calling her to this church and for all the hard work they have done to make her feel welcome. And now with the Advent season upon us, there is much that will be happening with our church family. Each Sunday in Advent some of our young people will be doing readings for the lighting of the Advent Wreath. On Dec. 4th, the Youth Fellowship will be having a Pancake Breakfast. On Dec. 18th, they will be presenting a program of special music and readings during worship. And on Dec. 23rd, they will be going Christmas Caroling to various members of the congregation. On Nov. 29th, the Women’s Guild will be sponsoring an Advent Celebration to offer a time of Fellowship to the other church women’s organizations in the area. On Dec. 10th, the Church Council will be holding another kolbas sale. On Dec. 17th, the church will be taking a trip into New York City to enjoy the spirit of the holidays by seeing the tree and skaters at Rockefeller Center, going to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and walking along Fifth Avenue to see the window displays. Each Thursday evening during Advent, many of our parishioners will be gathering at the church to study scripture and sing hymns of the season. This promises to be an important time to grow in the Spirit. On Christmas Eve we will be worshipping by sharing in a Candlelight Service. We all look forward to this being a special experience. As we move through this Advent season to the gift of Christmas Day and the anticipation of the New Year, the people of Roebling wish everyone the blessing of knowing God’s love through the gift of His Son, who offers us the promise of “new life”! To all our church members and to all the readers of The Magyar Church, and to their loved ones we wish a Joyous Christmas and a Happy New Year. Egyházkerületünk minden tagjának, lapunk minden olvasójának, és szeretteiknek, Istentől gazdagon megáldott, kellemes karácsonyi ünnepeket, és boldog új esztendőt kívánunk.
