10. oldal MAGYAR EGYHÁZ — NEWS FROM OUR CONGREGATIONS — DR. JOHN MACKAY 1889-1983 Dr. John A. Mackay, a former pres­ident of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, died on June 9, 1983. at the age of 94 in the USA. Born in Inverness, Scotland (1889), he attended Princeton Theological Seminary till 1915. He then spent one year in Spain. He was sent to Peru as a missionary for the Free Church of Scotland. From 1926 to 1932 he was the area secretary of the YMCA stationed in Montevideo, Uruguay. From 1936 to 1959 was president of Princeton Theological Seminary. From 1947 to 1959 he was president of the Interna­tional Missionary Council. A prolific and profound writer, he wrote around 20 lecture series, 13 books and around 100 articles on educational, missionary, theological and philosophical themes. Dr. John A. Mackay was from 1954 to 1959 the president of the WARC. In a personal letter to a friend he emphasized: “I feel more intensely all the time that the greatest need of our churches and our world today is for what I would call ‘an evangelical rebirth,’ by this I mean a rediscovery of the Gospel of Christ in its fullest sense, including historical perspective, theological reality, personal experience, evangelistic zeal and social concern with its political im­plications. R.P.S. TWO CHURCHES UNITED The former United Presbyterian Church in the USA (UPCUSA) and the Presbyterian Church in the US (PCUS) were reunited into the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). At the reunion cel­ebrations of the new General Assembly in Atlanta, Georgia, June 7-15, 1983. The Presbyterian Church divided at the time of the American Civil War. The re­union now allows the church to concen­trate on “mission and ministry.” The basic priorities of the church. 3,200,000 making it the fourth largest denomina­tion in the US. The 195th General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) reaffirms its strong committment to the World Al­liance of Reformed Churches. The new moderator, the Rev. J. Randolph Taylor of Charlotte, North Carolina. GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE SYNOD is cheduled to meet on Saturday, November 5th, 1983 in the meeting rooms of our sister church, Perth Amboy, N.J. The Ministerial Ex­amining Committee of the Synod at 9 A.M., and the special meeting of the Synod starts at 2 P.M. The ordination of new pastors will take place on Sunday at 4 o’clock. Bishop ALLEN PARK, Ml On Sunday, September 18th a large delegation from our church attended the 50th anniversary celebration of our sister church in Windsor, Canada. The annual picnic of the Men’s Club and Golden Circle is always a favorite undertaking and enjoyed by all, who attended this affair. October 1st, NIGHT IN BUDAPEST sponsored by the Dorcas Giuld and Golden Circle Club was still under prep­aration, when this news report was mail­ed to the editor. HUNGARIAN PROTESTANT BALL to benefit our Scholarship Fund FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 1983 THE WAYNE MANOR 1515 Route 23, Wayne, New Jersey Dinner at 7 PM, Dance from 9 PM The annual summer youth camp at Mt. Pleasant, Pa., August 14-21 was attended by 21 from our church, includ­ing 2 advisors, 2 counselors in training; the pastor and his wife visited the camp for a few days. Four young people from our sister church, Windsor, Canada al­so traveled with our mini-bus. The second annual “golf tournament,” August 20th, attracted 36 people, most­ly church members, the winners were Sigmund Faragó and Ms. Mary Cun­ningham. During Labor Day weekend the fol­lowing members attended the Presbyters Conference in Ligonier, Pa.: Ethel Vig, Mary Grundeman, Julia and Mary Ko­vács, Ethel Demeter, Ilona Kulcsár, Mar­line Molnár, Paul and Amy Kulcsár, Betty and Salvatore Bommarito, Ilona Asboth and the pastor and his wife. September 7th was the date of our AUTUMN FANTASY FASHION SHOW of the Dorcas Guild which was a big success, thanks to Ethel Vig chair­person, and the coworkers and the mem­bers. Sunday, September 11th, the Annual Birthday social of the Martha Circle was celebrated in our auditorium. BETHLEHEM, PA Twenty members received the Holy Communion for New Bread. On August 21st Rev. Nagy and his wife were serving in Union, N.J. Beth­len Presb. Church. He was preaching, she played the organ. There, 52 mem­bers took the holy communion for New Bread. After the church service the members of the congregation, 73 of them, went to a banquet. Mr. Bela Ken­di chief elder was the toastmaster. Rev. Dr. Bela Sohajda and Rev. Louis Nagy greeted the members and guests. Mr. and Mrs. James Kovary and Mrs. Margaret Tóth the wife of our treasurer Mr. Steve Toth came back from Hun­gary. Mr. Balint Balogh chief elder of our church and Rev. and Mrs. L. Nagy rep­resented our church at the farewell ban­quet of The Very Rev. Dr. Andrew Harsanyi dean, Rev. Nagy said a few words on behalf of the Eastern Classis ministers. Rev. Nagy and his wife represented our church at the farewell dinner of The Rev. Dr. Francis Vitéz of Perth Amboy, N.J.
