MAGYAR GGYhm 15. oldal NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS ALLEN PARK, MICH. Our Easter holiday season was blest by Almighty God; the Rev. Steven Szabó, post gra­duate student Chicago, Theological Seminary, who is studying for one year from Hungary, was our holiday assistant. On Palm Sunday the local churches organized an ecumenical Hungarian evangelistic conference the Rev. Dezső Trombitás from Hollywood, Calif., was the guest minister. During the first two months 19 members joined our church, Mr. Edmund Vig welcomed them during the lenten holy communion service. The Rev. and Mrs. László Bodor, and their son, Peter arrived to the USA just before the Easter holiday from Arad, Transylvania, now Ro­mania. Before resettling in the New World they visited our church. The area youth conference will be held in Toledo, Ohio on April 30th and May 1th; our group plans to attend by bus. Six young people, who attended classes during the past year will be confirmed on Pentecost May 22nd. Statistics: Marriage: Charles Roger Antal and Helen Moses on February 14th. May God bless their marriage. Deaths are recorded in the Hungarian section. BETHLEHEM, PA. The Lenten communion service attendance were low this year because of the huge snow storm we had previously and parking was impossible on the streets. 22 participated in the holy com­munion in church and 6 ailing members in their homes. The Holy Elements were donated by Mr. and Mrs. Balint Balogh. Donation toward the holy elements were made by Mr. and Mrs. Gyula Aszli. The Very Rev. Dr. Andrew Harsanyi, dean of our Eastern Classis visited our congregation on February 8th. He said farewell to our congrega­tion and consistory. We expressed our thanks for his faithful service and his Christian love toward us during the years he served as the dean of our Classis. The Eastern Classis Annual Assembly was held in the Hungarian Reformed Church of New Brunswick. Rev. Louis Nagy, Mr. Balint Balogh chief elder and Mr. Frank Athis controller rep­resented our church at the meeting. Our Annual Consistory Dinner was a successful event. We had a full house. Rev. and Mrs. L. Nagy visited their ailing brother-in-law the Rev. Paul Ferenczy in Florida. Mr. John Mihály and Mrs. Irene Kieffer were hospitalized in the past month. We delivered our Annual Report for those members who were unable to attend our Annual Congregational Meeting. The holy elements for Good Friday and Easter were donated by Mr. and Mrs. Steve Toth. 42 members took holy communion. Wedding: Mr. Louis L. Nagy Jr., the son of Rev. Louis J. Nagy and the late Elizabeth Ruszkay and Judith Harzso, the daughter of the late Dr. István Harzso judge of Miskolc and Jolán Nemeth teacher. They were married by the Rev. Ernest Miko the uncle of the bride, pastor of the UCC church of Nazareth, Pa., and the father of the bridegroom. May God bless the new couple. Mrs. Balint Balogh and Mr. James Kovary were hospitalized and operated in the past month. We pray for them. Mother's Day will be observed on May the 8th. On May 22nd we will have holy communion service for Pentecost. June 19th Father’s Day picnic at the garden of the parsonage. CARTERET, NJ. Our Annual Meeting was held on January 30th, after a combined service. All the officers were re­elected, one elder asked to retire, we elected instead Robert Fischer, and two new alternate elders: William Lukach and William Schurr. New officers of the Lórántffy Womens Guild are, president: Marge DeStefano, vice president: Mary Fischer, treasurer: Barbara Jenei, secre­tary: Helen Dodge, recording secretary: Marge Jensen, chaplain: Helen Sheridan. The Mens Club did not change leadership. Installation dinner was held on February 20th, well attended. On February 27, Rev. István Mészáros, pásti in Hungary who studies in Princeton, was our guest on the pulpit. On March 6 we took part on our Classis meeting in New Brunswick, where the Rt. Rev. Dr. Andrew Harsányi retired from the position of Dean of the Eastern Classis, a position he held for 17 years. The Rev. Stefan Török was elected by the congregations, unanimously, and installed as the new Dean at this meeting. Thanks to Rev. István Kovács, Pastor Emeritus of the Trenton church, for his services on Palm Sunday, while our pastor was on a week vacation. Maundy Thursday evening we had a combined communion service at 7 pm, on which the Pastor was presented with a new robe, made in Hungary, as a belated installation present, by the president of the Lórántffy Womens Guild, Marge DeStefa­no and the past president, Ann Balka. On Good Friday morning we had a Hungarian service, in the evening an English one. All services were well attended. Our Easter services were unfortunately rained out, less than half of the people showed up, then last year. Unfortunately this showed on the income as well. Thanks to the hard work of the Mens Club, the floor of the Bethlen Hall, as well as the stage was refinished by a contractor, beautifully. After sanding and three coats of polyurethane it looks­like new. We are planning a spring cleanup. On April 15, Friday 5—7, Fish Dinner, or­ganized by the Lórántffy Womens Guild. Pan­cake Breakfast on April 24, Sunday 8—12 a.m., organized by the Mens Club. Flea Market — Rummage Sale, May 7, Saturday 9:00 a.m.— 5.00 p.m. all in the Bethlen Hall. May God bless alt the mothers! The entire cost ($2,200.00) was covered by a donation from the Women's Club. This is the first step in renovating the portion of the church basement which was damaged by water seepage. Communion on the First Sunday in Lent, Maundy Thursday and on Easter Sunday were well attended. Our usual Lenten Vesper Services on Wednes­day evening were held again this year. On March 2nd, Wednesday evening we hosted a community Lenten Vesper Service. The Women’s Club held aSpring Program on April 24th, Sunday evening. The theme was “The Second Time Around”. Baptism: On April 10th Nicholas Michael Hanratty, the son of James Hanratty and his wife, the former Susan Kish, was admitted into our fellowship by the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. Godparents are Robert Kish and Kimberly Hawk. Wedding: On March 5th William D. Larkin and Deborah J. Wingerson were united in matri­mony in our church. Funeral: On January 29th Mrs. Julia Collins, an honorary member, was laid to rest in our ce­metery. May God the Father console those who were saddened by her passing. McKeesport, pa.
