MAGYAR GGYfíAZ 8. oldal MAGYAR CHURCH Youth Conference in Allen Park, Michigan The Ohio Area Annual Spring Youth Conference was held for the first time in the Hungarian Reformed Church of Allen Park, Mich, on May 1st, and 2nd. Members of the Calvin Synod and young people of our denomination participated in this youth conference. The champion of bringing the youth of the two denominations together is Edmund Vig, chief elder of the Allen Park Church. He is also the national president of the Hungarian Reformed Presbyters Association in America. The Conference in Allen Park was conducted by the 1981 officers Shawn Kazay president, Jenifer Vegh vice president, Sharon Galloro secretary-treasurer. The advisors of the local youth club are: Mrs. Margaret Tarkányi, and Mrs. Helen Antal. Mr. Frank Nagy, Principal of Toledo Ohio School examined the “Reasons for declining youth in the Churches. ” Discussions followed. The group was divided into 8 sections and discussed the issues under the guidance of Ernest Kaplar, youth director of the Allen Park Church. In the evening the youth people were entertained by music, a teenagers band; the evening ended with a “candlelight service” led by Rebecca Kaplar, former youth leader of the local Church. Sunday morning during the divine worship service the young people participated with Scripture reading, prayers, etc. The sermon was delivered by Rev. Stehpan L. Nagy, minister of the Columbus, Ohio Church. One of the best presentations and most likely by all of the conference was “Youth Speaks Out.” It was presented by Ms. Lori Mei. She also led the discussion on various problems the young people brought up. Dr. Joseph Nemeth professor of Bowling Green University was the main speaker. He addressed the group on “Modern Religious Cults” and reminded everyone to be careful and not to be misled by the many dangerous sects. The election of officers, for 1982-83 resulted with — President: Albert Varga (Toledo, Ohio); Vice- President: George James (Des Plains Illinois); Secretary-Treasurer: Susan Nagy (Toledo, Ohio). The Church organizations, Dorcas Guild, Ladies Aid, Golden Circle and Martha Circle Clubs provided the food for the youth. There were also 21 homes that offered hospitality and lodging for young people coming from far away Churches. The next years Conference will be held in Toledo, Ohio.
