Moses, who was brought up in the court of Pharaoh killed an Egyptian in defence of one of his copatriots, therefore he had to flee and for many years lived in a far away land: Midian. He left behind all the problems of the royal court until one day. This memorable day in the life of Moses was, when God appeared to him in a burning bush and he heard the voice saying: go back to Pharaoh, and lead the people out of Egypt into the Promised land Canaan. Just imagine going back into the hustle and bustle of the royal court from the quietness and rest of the countryside, back into the presence of Pharaoh, which he abhorred the most. In his heart he asked the question: Why? why? Lord? Who am I, that I should go? But Almighty God gave Moses the assurance: “certainly, I will be with you!” No matter what happens, God promised to be with Moses, His servant, therefore, he obeyed the voice of God and went forward in the name of the Lord. In the beginning of this year we all need this encouragement in our life, in the future of all our churches, for we do not know the vicissitudes ahead and we question: what shall we do? The command of God speaks to us all: go, certainly, I will be with you. First, we must realize who is this God, who speaks to us, and sends us according to His sovereign providence.?! Who is this person, marked in the Bible with the big capital letter “I”? It is the Almighty and eternal God, who spoke to Moses, and promised to be with him. If this God promises to be with you, you must cast out all your fears and doubts, for His words are all true and Amen. Moses put aside all his fear and other human emotions, for God seemed so great and important before him, that he could not deny His command: He went forth! Who will be with us as we go from one day to another, from the beginning of the year to the end, from health to sickness and from one trial another? The secret of courage is simple; that God is with us. Our Lord will be with us every day along the road of our pilgrimage, in our home, in far away places, wherever He may lead us. Let us fill our hearts with the promise of God: “Certainly, I will be with you”! Oh, how often we can be discouraged, when our plans do not succeed, when our family life is not working out as well as we would like, or our business does not seem to prosper as we expected and there could be a thousand reason, why we may look into the future with doubts and fears and questions? But, God speaks to you, He wants to convince you, that you have no reason to burden yourself with unnecessary fears, he said: “Certainly, I will be with you!’’ There is a definite assurance, that rings out of this text: “certainly”, I will be with you! This is to say, that as assuredly as the sun rises and sets every day, as the moon, the planets and the myriads of stras go regularly around their orbit, so surely God will be with you. Children of God are expected to trust His word and promises and live in that assurances. When parents promise a child something, they expect him to believe it. Almighty God will not be delighted in people, who so not take His word seriously and do not heed it. The Bible gives us the blessed assurance, that God will be with all His children. Will you be with God when your trials come? Show your faith and trust in Him: show it with your deeds and words and actions. God Almighty was with our churches in the past, He has helped us in difficult situations and He promises to be with us if we shall obey His voice and perform our duties in His name. There is a building program in one church, that is waiting for your help, in another the “fence of peace” needs to be repaired for the hearts and emotions are torn apart, still in another church there are unanswered questions and problems to be solved and we ask as Moses did: “Lord, who am I, that I should go? That I should do this or that?” Do not ask questions, when the Lord speaks, He said: certainly, I will be with you! In time gradually all the questions will be answered and all the problems will be solved: the training and preparing of our future pastors for our by-lingual churches will be achieved, but we must have faith in God, and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. The big question is: do we have faith in our Lord, God Almighty, that all things are possible, through His Son, our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ? May God grant our people such strong faith as we go forward in His name into the unknown future.
