16. oldal EESZ33H333 Twenty-Second Annual Conference of the Church Women United--------------------------------Eastern Division-----------------------------­On May 3, 1981, the Woman’s Guild-Lorantffy Nőegylet of the Hungarian Reformed Church of Roebling, New Jersey, hosted the Twenty-Second Annual Conference of the Church Women United. The theme of the conference was “Follow Me”, and the speaker was Miss Lisa von Pier, a student at Princeton Seminary. The Conference began with a worship service, and the prayers, readings and hymns all stressed our Chris­tian committment to follow Jesus. Participating in the service were Rev. Debra Johnson of Roebling, Rev. Steven Kovács of Trenton, Georgiana Harkel and Julia Somogyi, of Roebling, Helen Daróci of Perth Amboy, and Mary Kitchen. Rose Bartha of Roebling sang a solo, “I walk with God.” Following the service Helen Nagy, President of Church Women United, introduced the speaker, Miss Lisa von Pier. Miss von Pier is a very able speaker, and her address was a very meaningful one. Published in this issue on page 9-10-11. The discussion after the address was a lively one, and many people participated. Rev. Stefan Torok of Perth Amboy summarized the talk in Hungarian after the discussion concluded. The officers for 1980-1981 then conducted the busi­ness meeting. Those officers are: Helen Nagy, President; Helen Daróci, Perth Amboy, Vice President; Emma Snyder, Trenton, Secretary; Barbara Hunyady, Linden, Hungarian Secretary; Helen Bordash, Roeb­ling, Treasurer; Margaret Harsanyi, Carteret, Chap­lain, and Helen Cutter, Staten Island, Delegate-at- Large. The delegates voted to give $200 to help Louis Medgyesi in his studies at New Brunswick Seminary. The officers for 1981-82 were elected. They are: President: Helen Daróci, Perth Amboy Vice-Pres.: Emma Snyder, Trenton Secretary: Elsie Loki, Perth Amboy Hungarian Secretary: Barbara Hunyady, Linden Treasurer: Helen Bordash, Roebling Chaplain: Helen Nagy, Roebling 68 delegates from seven churches attended the con­ference. Margaret Harsanyi led the conference in the closing prayer, and everyone joined in singing “God Be With You Till We Meet Again”. Everyone adjourned to the church hall for a ham-dinner prepared by the Roebling Women’s Guild. It was a day of spiritual renewal and good fellowship for all of us. NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS ] AKRON, OHIO Our annual church picnic was the biggest and most successful during the history of our church. Our clear profit was $6,400. —. May God bless richly the church workers and church members for this wonderful achieve­ment. Baptisms: We baptized Brian Michael Cant­well, who is the son of Michael and Cherry Cantwell, godparents are Joseph Mathe and Sharon Hanoy, the same time we baptized Joseph Anthony Mathe, who is the son of Joseph and Ruth Mathe, godparents are Larry and Jeanette Buckhart. The newly baptized are the greatgrandsons of Mr. and Mrs. József Máthé. Mr. József Mathe was the last chief elder of our Alliance church. Weddings: Joseph Paul Ladich and Connie Luann Steart, Joseph Carl Kovach and Donna Lynn Morris, Michael Grund and Edith Pálin­kás, Claude Rollin Metcalf and Charles Kay Seibert. May God bless richly the newly weds with his heavenly and earthly blessings. Our minister, as the Dean of the Western Classis officially visited our Phoenix, Arizona and our Youngstown, Ohio churches. ALLEN PARK, MICH. AH organizations of the church had summer outings during the months of June, July and August. The annual church picnic was held on Sunday afternoon July 5th, sponsored by the Men’s Club and Golden Circle Club. Our pastor emeritus the Very Rev. Tibor Tóth, Dean was hospitalized in Daytona Beach, Florida. We pray for his recovery. The Congregation sent him a generous gift to help him meet the unexpected financial burdens in­curred by his illness. Thanks to all, who made contributions and remember him in their daily prayers. The Hungarian Heritage Conference spon­sored by the Eight Tribe Foundation August 20-23 in Ligonier, Pa., was attended by Mr. and Mrs. Alex. Koroknay, and the Pastor and his wife. The annual Ligonier, Pa.—Presbyter’s Con­ference was organized by the national pre­sident Edmund Vig, during the Labor Day weekend. Many attended the bus excursion. The Annual Youth Camp was attended by 17 members from our church and 11 from our sister church in Windsor, Ont., Canada, who traveled by our minibus to the camp in the beautiful Laurel Mountains of Pennsylvania. Everyone had an enjoyable time. The 40th anniversary of our church will be observed on Sunday September 20th, 11 A.M. with a combined worship service followed by an anniversary banquet at 12:30 P.M. Every­one invited. Statistics—marriages: Frank R. Zeld and Christine T. Lovas June 20th,—Joseph A. Lemsky and Patricia M. Gassmann June 27th, John S. Arnoczky and Christine M. Fülöp June 27th. May God’s blessing be upon the newly wed couples. BETHLEHEM, PA. 31 members received the holy communion for New Bread. The holy elements were donated by Mr. and Mrs. Steve Toth and family and Rev. and Mrs. L. J. Nagy. Income for the first half of the year was $17,842.47; expenses were $17,264.14. The pastor and his wife represented our church at the testimonial dinner honoring Dr. and Mrs. Andrew Harsanyi on July 18, 1981, in Carteret, N.J. On Father’s Day, June 21, Mrs. John Fabian, the president of our Ladies Aid Society, presented a nice white handkerchief to every father as the gift of the Ladies Aid Society. Tibor Turoczy greeted the fathers with a Hungarian poem. In the afternoon we had a successful Father’s Day Picnic in the backyard of the parsonage. Wedding: Miss Denise Mary Schneebeli and Francis Toth Jr. exchanged marriage vows in our church. Witnesses were Robert Franklin Trimmer and Jean Marie Fry. The minister held the funeral service for Mrs. Frank Ragalyi nee Erzsébet Oláh who passed away in Mount Carmel at the age of 83. Mr. and Mrs. Steve Turoczy and family are on vacation in Hungary. May God be with them. CARTERET, NJ. The Communion Service of Thanksgiving for the New Bread was jointly conducted by the new pastor, the Rev. Gábor G. Nitsch, and Dr. Andrew Harsanyi, pastor emeritus. The emotional farewell and the hearty welcome made it a lovely and joyful occasion. It was also the farewell for Mrs. Margaret Harsanyi as organist who, too, had served for over 24 years in Carteret. Excellently organized by the Church Council
