MAGYAR GGYhm 12. oldal ~Statement by Governor Ronald Reagan-------------­on the 24th anniversary of the Hungarian Revolution In 1956, the people of Hungary rose up against a Communist dictatorship that had denied them their fundamental human rights. Although the revolution it­self was brutally suppressed by Soviet troops and tanks, the seeds of discontent remained and later spread to other Eastern European nations. In 1968, it was Prague. This year, Gdansk. The relative improvements observed in Hungary during the past decades are a direct con­sequence of the Hungarian fight for freedom in the fall of 1956. On this, the 24th anniversary of the Hungarian revolution, we remind ourselves and the peoples of East Central Europe that the people of the United States share with them their aspirations for the recovery of their freedom and independence. AKRON, OHIO Ten members of our church council parti­cipated in the Presbyters Conference at Fair­­port Harbour. Our minister made a speech about the Gaspar Karoli Seminary, which will start to train Hungarian Reformed ministers in the United States in 1981. We spent $25,000 to pave the big driveway between our church and the Lorantffy Care Center. On August 16th we blessed the marriage of Simon Adler Jr. and Natalie Genet in our church. Witnesses were Mary Kuzminsky and John Johnson. On August 15th, we buried Mike Keller, our faithful church members, 59. Fifteen members of our church made a one day trip to Ligonier, Pennsylvania. ALLEN PARK, MICH. Seventeen members of our church attended a workshop conference in Fairport Harbor, Ohio. Mr. Edmund Vig was one of the speakers. The newly elected officers of the Christian Youth Fellowship are: Sharon Galloro pre­sident, Tracy Gottschalk vice president, Elizabeth Hörcsik secretary, Linda King treasurer, Dean Varga and Denise Tárkányi chaplains, Daniel Tárkányi historian. Sunday School teachers: Mr. Ernest Kaplar superintendent, Deborah Kaplar Indre, Helen Kaplar, Rebecca Kaplar, Esther Kaplar, Betty Mosso, Steve Láczay, Art Ambrus, Zoltán Ambrus, Irene Ambrus. Assistants: Rose Wickers, Ella Karwowski, Marge Tarkanyi, Karen Tarkanyi, Linda Varga secretary, John Sobodash pianist. The Dorcas Guild organized two excursions in the fall: one to Agawa Canyon in Ontario, Canada and one to New York City. A Walkathon project to raise funds for the “needy of the world” took place on Sunday, October 19th with all local churches parti­cipating. Bill Sarkett and Bill Veresh were the chairmen of our church group. Our full time secretary Mrs. Geraldine Vig resigned after two years of faithful service. The officers of the church appointed Mrs. Muncie King to fill the position. Statistics—Baptism: Brian Marie Ott, daughter of Cletus Ott and Jeannine Mathia, Amanda Lynn Mathia, daughter of Glenn A. Mathia and Vicki L. Malcolm, Joseph István Miskey, son of Joseph E. Miskey and Renee L. Tietz, Todd Michael Várady, son of David Várady and Barbara Récsei. BETHLEHEM, PA. On World Wide Communion the holy elements were donated by Mr. and Mrs. Steve Turoczy and Mr. and Mrs. John Mihály. 29 members participated in the sacraments. On September 8th we hurried Mrs. Susie Macsi who died at the age of 84. On September 13th in McKeesport, Pa. Mr. Andrew Fedor Jr. and Miss Angela Exposito exchanged marriage vows. Mrs. Angela Fedor became a member of the McKeesport church. On October 1st Mr. Michael Toth was hur­ried in McKeesport who died at the age of 71. Visitors: The Rev. Nicholas Wesselényi— pastor of the Lackawanna, N.Y. church; Rev. Marton Kerekes, Buffalo, N.Y., Rev. and Mrs. Louis I lies Duquesne, Pa., Mr. and Mrs. Bela Toth secretary of the Hung. Ref. Federa­tion, Washington, D.C. with his brother-in­­law Dr. and Mrs. Zoltán Kovács from Buda­pest, Hungary visited Rev. L. Nagy and the chief elder Mr. Balint Balogh. Bethlen Home Sunday was held on the 28th of September when the Rev. Paul Kovács the administrator of the Bethlen Home gave us the message and greetings of the Home. Our church gave a donations of 175 dollars to the Bethlen Home. Mr. Balint Balogh chief elder, Mr. Frank Athis controller and Rev. Louis Nagy re­presented our church at the Eastern Classis Presbyter’s Conference. On November 2nd Rev. L. Nagy will preach at the First Hung. Ref. Church in Toronto, Canada, where they will have a remembering celebration of the dedication of their church. Rev. L. Nagy will be the official speaker at the banquet. Mr. Steve Toth treasurer is back from Hun­gary where he visited his ailing parents. Mr. Andrew Turoczy and Mrs. Louis Nagy were hospitalized in September. Holy communion service for New Wine be held on November 23. CARTERET, NJ. All church organization work is in full swing. The Sunday School started out with an enrollment of close to 40. The Lorantffy Society had its first fall meat-sale in October; they have become small in membership but they are big in enthusiasm; also many younger women and men helped them. The Junior Women’s Guild meets weekly for a craft-ses­sion preparing for their three day bazaar in November. The Youth Fellowship is shaping up a new program for the Fall-Winter season. A well organized and well attended Eastern Area Presbyters’ Conference was held in Carteret on September 21. Particularly grati­fying was the lively participation of the elders in the discussions especially concerning the church’s young people. Baptism: Amy Margaret, daughter of John Joseph Vytovich and his wife Margaret Elizabeth Deak, on September 14. The baby is the granddaughter of Frank and Margie Deak. Wedding: Dean Paul Trencsenyi and Mary Lou Stanicki, on August 3. Funerals: Joseph Jozsa, 45, on September 19. — Mrs. László Danes, 85, on September 15. She was born as Erzsébet Takács in Kor­­láthelmec, Ung county. Her husband, László Danes, was chief elder of the Carteret congregation 1923-28 and 1932-33; Mrs. Danes was one of the outstanding presidents of the Lorantffy Society filling that office from 1927 to 1943. DUQUESNE, PA. News items from late summer, early fall: August 20th, Women’s Club picnic at the residence of Ruth Sabo. August 23rd, attended the Bethlen Home Bazaar. A sizeable group of our church members represented the congre­gation. September 28th, Fellowship Dinner, hosted by the men of the church in honor of our ladies. This dinner was the dedication of our remodeled kitchen. The dinner was a success. The Sunday School held a Spaghetti Dinner on October 5th, with even greater success. October 24th is the date of the Sunday School Halloween Party. The confirmation class is being held every Saturday with four students. On the Sunday School calendar the following: In November a visit to the Bethlen Home, a program aired on the Hungarian Reformed Radio Program. World Communion was celebrated on October 5th, 131 members participated. Our Annual Congregational Meeting will be held on October 26th, after a combined wor­ship service, in the sanctuary. The same day, at 6 p.m. we will have a fellowship dinner, in the spirit of stewardship. The Women's Club will also host an Election Day dinner, Hun­garian food served, in the fellowship hall, on November 4th. Weddings: Robert Russell—Sheila Muse on September 13th; Richard Dobos—MaryAnn Hall on September 27th; James Hanratty— Susan Kish on October 11th. Funeral: Michael Wargo, a lifetime faithful member of our congregation was escorted to his last resting place from our church on NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS
