MAGYAR £G/hAZ 12. oldal IN MEMÓRIÁM Mrs. John-János Benga With great sorrow we have gathered together in the house of God on January 28, to say our final farewell to a beloved mother and wife, the most well known lady of the Eastern seaboard in Hungarian circles, Yolanda Benga, everyone s “Jolán néni”. She was born on November 3rd in the small town of Apagy in Szabolcs megye. Her school years were spent in the small town where she was born, and studied “Népművészet” Hungarian Folklore in Nyíregyháza. In December of 1951 she married Mr. John Benga an American citizen, whom his parents brought back to the old country, at a young age, and who also taken to forced labor camp by the Russians. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, Joseph and John. After many requests Mr. Benga was allowed by the Hungarian authorities to return to his native land, and Mrs. Benga with his two small sons followed her husbands in 1967. After their arrival they joined the Magyar Reformed Church of Perth Amboy. Her knowledge and dedication to Hungarian Embroidery led her to start a Hungarian embroidery Class in the church, and also displayed many of her work at the past Hungarian Festivals in the Garden State Art Center, and in other places too. Most of her time beside caring for her family was spent in ambassadoring to the Hungarian culture of embroidery. In Her memory a permanent Museum is established with the Social Center of the Hungarian Reformed Church. Be her memory blessed among us GYÜLEKEZETI ÉLET AKRON, OHIO Baptism. We baptized Christian Nathan Rounds, the son of James and Linda Rounds during our English service in our church. Godparents are Mr. and Mrs. Steve Ladich. May God bless richly the newly baptized, the godparents and the parents. Wedding. On May 10th we blessed the marriage of Mr. Bruce Hawkins Jr. and Miss Susan Szor. Witnesses were Thomas Seiber and Michael McDonald. May God bless the newly weds with His heavenly and earthly blessings. Funerals: On April 28th, we buried Michael Nagy. 84, on May 15th Charles Vasas, 92 and on May 22nd Mrs. Margaret Payerle, 84. May their memory be blessed among us. ALLEN PARK, MICH. On May 25th, Pentecost, the following young people were confirmed and participated in the Holy Communion: Daniel P. Drys, John Csereklye, Gary S. Hodi, William K. Hódi, Alex S. Kiss, Andrea Miklós, John J. Molnár, Paul W. Nagy, John D. Oaks, William M. Oaks, Laura E. Sobodash, and Franklin J. Töltési. May God bless them and help them to keep their oath. The “resurfacing” of our parking area was unanimously approved by our members, the cost will be over $20,000. The Christian Youth Fellowship had bake sales and car washes to raise funds for their programs and excursions. They are making plans to attend the Summer Youth Camp in July, at Ligonier, Penna. The Martha Circle Club members, at the time of this writing of these news items, were busy with plans for a Hawaiian Luau on May 24th. Statistics: Baptism: Jaclyn Theresa Andrews, daughter of Robert D. Andrews and Irene E. Berghoffer; Rebecca Lynn Simko, daughter of Daniel C. Simko and Donna A. Hammermaster. BETHLEHEM, PA. Eighty per cent of our members received holy communion at Easter. At Pentecost the holy elements were donated by Mrs. Julius Kadar and Mr. and Mrs. Steve Turoczy. Mr. Balint Balogh chief elder, Mr. Frank Athis controller and the pastor represented our consistory at the meeting of the Elders Association in Staten Island. On May 15th, Ascension Day we had English worshipservice. We baptized Terrika, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tarry Lee Bass. Godparents are Mr. and Mrs. William J. Sufrich. Miss Jolán Vilma Nagy and Mr. Jimmy Eugene Bailey exchanged marriage vows in our church. Witnesses were Mrs. Elizabeth Smoyer and Mr. Richard Bailey. Mrs. Elizabeth Bartek who was born in Erdély passed away at the age of 84. The minister and his wife are taking a trip to Hungary for his 50th class reunion, on June the 18th. They will be back on July 17th. During his absence the Rev. Paul Ferenczy retired minister will substitute him. If you need pastoral care call our chief elder Mr. Balint Balogh or the parsonage. The minister participated in the installation service of the Rev. Zoltán Szucs in Lorain, Ohio. The parents of the installed minister were old friends of Rev. Nagy. The Rev. Stephen Szőke visited us from Dayton, Ohio. He is a very good friend of Rev. and Mrs. Nagy and he is the godfather of one of their sons. On Mother’s Day Steve Turoczy Jr. and his brother Tibor Turoczy greeted the mothers with poems. The church council presented flowers to all the ladies of our congregation. CARTERET, NJ. We gratefully report that large congregations worshipped during Holy Week. There was a shift in attendance, however, from Good Friday to Holy Thursday when many of our people shared the benefits of the Lord's Table: Good Friday services were attended by less than in previous years. Donations were at an all time high even surpassing inflation proportions. However, utility and insurance costs are thwarting all financial growth. At the time of writing this report 75 women from neighboring congregations indicated their participation at the Annual Conference of United Church Women to be held in Carteret on May 18. The Pastor and Mrs. Harsanyi were away visiting Hungary, Austria and Germany. In Munich, Germany, he preached at a communion service in the evangelical St. Markus-Kirche, in Hungarian and German, on occasion of the annual convention of the Order of The Hospitalers of St. John. During his absence Lay Preacher John Nentish, Vice Chief Elder Bela Kantor supplied the Carteret pulpit; for two Sundays the Rev. Ferenc Vitéz from Perth Amboy preached at the Hungarian services. Mrs. Irene Kronenfeld and Mr. William Schurr were the supply organists. The dedicated help of all these people was greatly appreciated. DUQUESNE, PA. The special congregational meeting, held on April 20th, authorized the church council to finance the remodeling of the kitchen. The work was awarded to Tri-Boro Roofing Co., and construction began. The "Four Season” party hosted by our Women's Club brought moral and financial gain to our Women’s Club. On May 4th the Annual Spring Women’s Conference of the Hungarian Reformed Churches of Western Pennsylvania drew approximately 100 participants, hosts included. Lecturer was Mrs. Edith Kovács, wife of the Administrator of the Bethlen Home, Ligonier. The net income of the conference was divided between the Bethlen Home and the local Hungarian Reformed Radio Program. Funeral: Mrs. Ethel Nagy was laid to rest in our cemetery on May 7th, at the side of her husband, Charles Nagy, whom we lost
