14 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ Bence and his wife, the former Kimberly Charles into the membership of our congregation by the Sacrament of Holy Baptism. Godparents are Robert Bence and Kelly J. Charles. Wedding: Linda Elaine Vockley and Daniel Russel Baughman were united in the bond of holy matrimony on June 2nd. Funeral: Frank Kottán, a lifelong faithful member of our church was laid to rest in our cemetery on August 9th. He was member of church council for several decades, held the office of secretary and treasurer for most of those years. May the Lord of Life console the sorrowful hearts of his family, friends, and fellow church members. Harvest-Home Communion will be observed on Sunday, August 5th. Our Sunday School children and some guests were attending the Shrine Circus in Pittsburgh. This excursion was sponsored by Sunday School activities for this purpose. In the month of August we will hold our Vacation Bible School, August 6- 10th (Monday through Friday). Also, in August the picnics will be held for the Women’s Club, the Sunday School and for the Vacation Bible School. Looking forward to the autumn months, we are working out á plan to hold our Sunday School during the English Service. This will encourage the parents to bring their children, while they attend services—we hope! McKeesport, pa. We celebrated Mother’s Day with a combined service. 140 people attended. Almost the same number of people participated in the Mother’s Day Dinner. Thanks to the work of the men on Council, who cooked the meat, and Mrs. Mary Fedor and Mrs. Mary Brindza, who prepared the dessert, the Mother’s Day Dinner was a beautiful success. The Sunday School program ended for the summer on May 27th. It was on the same day that the following children were confirmed during English service: Dana Austin, Kimberly Honick, Deborah Jordan, Thea Jardanhazy, David Papp, Michelle and Shari Segady. It was at Pentecost that they took Holy Communion the first time in the community of a large congregation. On June 10 we honored our two graduates during the worship service: Miss Elizabeth Szarka and Kenneth Gerzsenyi. The Pastor’s installation took place in the afternoon of the same day. The installation worship service started at 4:30 P.M. The Rt. Rev. Tibor Dömötör, Deputy Bishop of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America, Dean of the Western Classis, Pastor of Hungarian Reformed Church in Akron, Ohio, preached in Hungarian and performed the ceremony of installation. The Rev. Louis Illés, President of the Hungarian Protestant Ministerial Association of Pittsburgh and Vicinity, Pastor of the Duquesne sister church, preached in English. The Very Rev. Zoltán Kovács, Dean of the Central Classis of the Calvin Synod, Pastor of the First Hungarian Reformed Church in Munhall, Pa., did the reading of the Scripture and prayed. Outside them the following pastors attended the worship service and the banquet afterwards: the Rev. Paul Kovács, Director of the Bethlen Home for the Aged in Ligonier, Pa., the Rev. Sándor Mészáros, Pastor of Hungarian Lutheran Church of Pittsburgh, Pa., the Rev. Miklós Novák, Treasurer of Calvin Synod, Pastor of the First Hungarian Reformed Church of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Monsignor Doctor Father Basil Shereghy, Pastor of Transfiguration of Our Lord Hungarian Byzantine Church in McKeesport, Pa. The Rev. Dr. Éva Fábián, Pastor of the First Evangelical and Reformed U.C.C. in McKeesport, Pa., and the Rev. Nicholas Mager, Jr., Pastor of the Central Presbyterian Church in McKeesport, Pa., attended the worship service. The banquet, starting at 6:00 P.M., was a nice affair. The Rev. Miklós Novák said the invocation. All the ministers present gave speeches and congratulated the newly installed pastor, his family and the whole congregation. Also Dr. Dénes Török, President of several Hungarian organizations, expressed his best wishes toward the McKeesport congregation and its pastor on this beautiful occasion. In the end the Rev. Orosz thanked the congregation and the guests for the celebration, the many gifts that he and his family received from the different organizations and members of the congregation. He closed the banquet with a prayer. On June 17 we celebrated Father’s Day with a combined service, followed by the Father’s Day Dinner. Due to the Women’s Guild and the ladies of the congregation, it was a nice event in the life of the church. On July 1st we had a pleasant surprise visit at our worship services from the Rt. Rev. Bishop and Mrs. Dezső Ábrahám, who traveled through our city. The same day Mrs. Sándor Nagy, organist of our congregation, resigned from her office. She had been organist of our congregation through many years, and did her job without any financial remuneration. It is with much appreciation that we thank her for her service in our congregation. Our special thanks to Deacon Sándor E. Chomos, member of our congregation, who performed the worship services on July 22nd, in the absence of the pastor who was on vacation. On June 24th Edward P. Jordanhazy and Gloria J. Orris were married. God’s blessing be upon the young couple. Funeral: Mr. Aaron Fazekas, one of the founding members of our congregation, gave his soul back to his Creator, at the age of 93 years. The funeral service was held on June 27th. May the consolation of our Heavenly Father be with the bereaved family. We celebrate Harvest Home Communion on August 5th. English worship service with Holy Communion starts at 9:30 A.M., Hungarian worship with Holy Communion at 11:00 A.M. PERTH AMBOY, N. J. With the passing month of June amongst our activities we could mention the following. On the First Sunday, being Pentecost, we observed the Sacrament of Holy Communion, with our newly confirmed children participating "in the elements first with their parents and family members. Just the day before the holiday we welcomed “The Bluebells’’ an all girl choir from Finland, who on their tour in the U.S. visited us and offered their talents to bring an enjoyable afternoon to many of us. Our understanding is, that they will visit some of our sister churches in the coming days. We would like to express our thanks to all our members who were gracious enough to provide lodging for them during their stay. On the second Saturday some of our members and our youth organization took off for a summer hike to “Jenny Jump” around the Delaware Water Gap. We planned it a family outing and truly it was. It was so good to see some of our families out in the open enjoying themselves. Those remaining around, visited the Hungarian Festival of New Brunswick. In the past issue of our newspaper we gave the date for our Vacation Bible School as starting with July 2nd. We need to make a correction on that and the starting time or date is June 25th at 9:00 a.m. Details on transportation and other activities have been given in our church newsletter and we ask everyone to consult the calendar.
