MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 13 common good, and equal shares in the natural resources of the lands we each inhabit can be universally acknowledged.” They also pledged to their fellow Christians “our concerns, our prayers, and our support.” In sending greetings “to our brothers and sisters in Rumania,” the Council expressed its strong belief that “ethnic, religious or linguistic minorities should have both right and opportunity to enjoy their own culture, to profess and practice their own religion, and to use their own language.” The message to the churches in Rumania (Transylvania) is to be delivered personally by the Rev. Edmund Ferret, general Secretary of the Genevabased World Alliance of Reformed Churches, who was a guest at the Area Council meeting and is scheduled to visit church leaders in Rumania on Jan. 9. In other business at the three-day meeting on the campus of Princeton Theological Seminary, the Council: —Heard addresses by Dr. John H. Leith, professor of theology at Union Theological Seminary (Richmond, YA), the Rev. James I. McCord, president of Princeton Theological Seminary and president of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches. —Elected new officers including Professor Hugh Koops of New Brunswick Theological Seminary as chairman; the Honorable J. Littleton Wills of the Guyana Congregational Union as vice chairman. Named as chairmen of its three permanent committees were: the Rev. William R. Phillippe—Civil and Religious Liberty; the Rev. Allen O. Miller—Theology; the Rev. Stanley Wood—Cooperation and Witness. —Learned that the Roman Catholic/Presbyterian- Reformed Consultation, which has been underway for ten years, is entering its third major round of deliberations with consideration of the theme “Ethics and the Search for Christian Unity.” Topics to be discussed include human rights and economic justice, and an ecumenical response to abortion. —Adopted a recently published volume, A Christian Declaration of Human Rights, developed by its Theological Committee, and commended it to member churches for study. —Approved a 1978 budget in the amount of $108,000, and called on member churches to give increased financial support to the Council’s program. —frank h. heinze gqaasBBB NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS AKRON, OHIO Our newly elected church officers: Chief Elder: Edward Vargo, Assistant Chief Elder: Ted Szor, Secretary- Treasurer: Mrs. Emmajean Rutherford, Auditors: Charles Boehme, Simon Adler, councilmen: József Baksa, Dr. Árpád Banda, Lorand Banda, Joseph E. Our church income during 1978: $43,752, the income of our Lorantffy Care Center with the $94,248 donation, $958,893. On March 4th, Sunday 101 person participated in the Holy Communion services in our church, 17 in our Care Center and 8 in hospitals and private homes. Our March 11th, Hungarian Freedom Day celebration was a great success. Our main speaker Frank Gajdatsy analyzed the history and meaning of the 1848-49 Hungarian Freedomfight with great knowledge. On February 19th we buried one of our great church leaders, Ernest Sala, honorary Chief Elder. Mr. Sala was a great instrument of God during his lifetime in the service of our church. He had a great part in the unification of our churches in 1968. May God comfort his faithful wife Anna and his beloved ones. We will keep his blessed memory alive among us. Mrs. Agnes Posegay, office worker of the church, resigned after 10 years of faithful service. Mrs. Geraldine Vig was elected to fill the position of church secretary January, 1979. Thanks anp appreciation was expressed to Mrs. Posegay at a dinner party and tokens of appreciation were presented to her by the officers. Mr. Bert Lovász, who was a member of the church custodian team of three, resigned. Thanks were expressed for his faithful service. The work will be carried on by Alex Szénás and Barbara Silye.
