12 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ The Christian Youth Fellowship new­ly elected officers participated in a corporate Holy Communion on Sunday, October 7th. Congratulations and best wishes to them. The farewell testimonial banquet to honor Lt. Charles Compton, on Septem­ber 27th was a successful affair, where all the officers of the Police Depart­ment, the City Fathers, and many mem­bers of the church participated. The first “Walkathon” was held on Sunday, October 21st to aid the hungry and needy of the world. Almost every church in the city of Allen Park took part in this fund raising program to promote the work of the Church World Service. Baptisms. Bradley Jay Sarkett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bela Sarkett, Kimberly Nicole Mathia, daughter of Mr. David Mathia and the late Kathryn Curtis, Kelley Elizabeth Kozma, daughter of Lawrence R. Kozma and Betty June Savel was baptized on December 2nd. Marriages: Robert Nusser and Mi­chele A. Garbinski, August 11th, Frank Orbán and Sharon M. Walker, Septem­ber 8th, Attila A. Wedding: On August 25th Michael Pearl and Kathy Oberländer exchanged marriage vows in our church. Funerals: Mr. László Feke control­ler, consistory member of our church, who was born in Libanfalva, Maros County, Hungary, passed away on Au­gust 18th. Mr. Miklós Szabó born in Kunhegyes, Hungary passed away on August 21st, 1979. New members: Mrs. Julia Kovács and Miss Georgina Sutus. On World Wide Communion the holy elements were donated by Mr. and Mrs. James Kovary and Rev. and Mrs. Louis J. Nagy. The Very Rev. Dr. Andrew Harsanyi, dean of the Eastern Classis visited our congregation on October 2nd. Mr. Balint Balogh chief elder, mem­ber of the Judicial Commission of the Classis, Mr. Steve Turoczy church sec­retary, Mr. Steve Toth church treasu­rer, Mr. Frank Athis church controller and the pastor represented our church at the meeting of the Eastern Classis. The pastor delivered a lecture at the meeting of the Ministerial Associa­tion in Ligonier, Pa. He represented the Eastern Classis at the directors meeting of the Bethlen Home. On September 23rd Mr. Balint Ba­logh chief elder and Mr. Frank Athis controller represented our church at the Presbyter’s Conference held in Perth Amboy, N.J. We painted our church windows at the cost of $2,510.00. Our Kálvin Hall was also painted at the cost of $3,- 270.00. Mr. Louis Ternyik former vice chief elder of our church retired from the Bethlehem police department after 26 years of service. He works now at the First Valley Bank of Bethlehem. Mrs. Margaret Toth, the wife of our treasurer had a successful operation. We wish her speedy recovery. CARTERET, N. J. All church organizations have re­sumed their regular activities; the Sun­day School had a very good start with some new teachers and new children. The Annual Congregational Dinner on October 27 was a well attended affair; for entertainment, the Junior Women’s Guild presented a skit recalling Hun­garian immigrant life half a century ago. The Youth Fellowship’s new officers are Harry Brand, president; Guy Sen­­delsky, vice-president; Kevin Brand, treasurer; Denise Palmer, secretary; Rhonda Kovács and Lisa Lukach, Sun­shine Committee; James "Kovács, Shar­­ron Palmer, Horman Palmer and Tibor Varga, Fund Raising Committee. The reorganization meeting of the Eastern Area Presbyters’ Association was hosted by the Carteret elders. The Pastor and several church mem­bers from Carteret attended the festivi­ties on the occasion of the 75th anni­versary of the Woodbridge sister church and of the 50th anniversary of the John Calvin, Perth Amboy sister church. Baptism: Joseph Alfred, son of Er­nest Rompa and his wife, the former JoAnn D’Alessio, on October 21. Funerals: John Bamburak, Sr., 60 on September 27; Julia Comba Folk, 65, on September 29; Elizabeth Szabó Tóth, 89, on November 10. Mrs. Tóth was the last surviving charter-member of the Lorántffy Society. The Pastor and Mrs. Harsanyi at­tended the White House reception on the occasion of the visit of Pope John II in Washington, D.C. on October 6; then, on October 7, they participated at the Ecumenical Service of Prayer and subsequent reception at Trinity College in Washington, D.C. The Pope shared this service with a number of Roman Catholic, Protestant and Orthodox church leaders. On October 7 Lay- Preacher John Nemish preached at the English-language service in Carteret, Vice Chief Elder Béla Kántor conducted the Hungarian service; Mr. William Schurr substituted at the organ. DUQUESNE, PA. Baptisms: Kurt Ronald Wargo, son of Lawrence Wargo and his wife, the former Jill Hite was baptized on Octo­ber 7th. Godparents are Evelyn Wargo and Andrew Wargo Jr. Weddings: Ellen M. Toth and John M. Cima on September 22. Karen A. Sabo and Fred S. HuWalt on Oct. 26. Funerals: John Lacsko on August 27, John Nagy on November 29, both in­terred in our cemetery. John “Ki” Kish on November 17th. Communion was observed on World Communion Sunday, October 5th (100) and on Thanksgiving Sunday, Novem­ber 18 (115). Two boy scouts, Steve Kennedy (member of our church) and Jack Hoffman (St. John’s Lutheran) re­ceived “God and Country” award. Both are Life Scouts. Troop 314 holds its meetings in our fellowship hall. It is one of a few Scout Troops which can boast of a membership of exclusively Eagle Scouts. Two families, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Urban and Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Be­­lenski observed their 50th wedding an­niversary during the summer months.
