MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 11 elder previously for many years; now he was welcome to serve again. Ben Matto is a new alternate elder. There was no election of officers since Leonard Sendelsky, chief elder, Béla Kántor, vice chief elder, Frank Vérségi, secretary, Géza Megyesi, treasurer and Helen Sheridan, financial secretary, had been elected for three year terms in 1976. The Annual Meeting set limits of the price of sale of a house owned by the church, also for the purchase price of a new organ for the sanctuary. The traditional installation dinner was attended by less people than usual due to the bad weather. Nevertheless it was a very pleasant affair. The Junior Women’s Guild sponsored a highly successful Easter Fashion Show; several of our own ladies of various age groups modeled the dresses in a very attractive way. Burial: Julius Fürjész, Sr., 68 years old, on March 1. The deceased was bom in New York City but was brought up in Damócz, Zemplén county from where he returned to America as a young man; with his family he was a member of the Carteret church ever since. DUQUESNE, PA. Baptisms: Terrence John Estu Jr., the son of Terrence John Estu Sr. and his wife, the former Kathleen Morgan was baptized on February 26th. Godparents are Robert and Cathrine Morgan. Jeffrey Robert Bence, the son of Gary Bence and his wife, the former Kimberly Charles was baptized on March 5th. Godparents are Carla Bence, Holly Charles and Bruce Charles. A Community World Day of Prayer Service was held in our church on March 3rd, sponsored by the ladies of our church. In spite of inclement weather a good number of people participated from the entire community. Our guest speaker was the Rev. Dr. Eva Fabian, pastor of the First Hungarian Evangelical and Reformed Church of McKeesport, Pa. McKeesport, pa. We held our congregational meeting on February 19th, at which time the Rev. Árpád Csaba Orosz was elected as the new pastor. The meeting was conducted by the assistant dean Kalman Adorján and the chief elder Julius Bakos. Our Easter services: we will have communion Thursday evening, March 12th at 7:30 p.m. Good Friday: Hungarian service at 11:00 a.m., English at 7:30 p.m. Easter Sunday, Sunrise Service at 6:30 a.m. with communion, 9:30 English service, Hungarian at 11:00 o’clock. Hungarian service at 11:00 a.m. on Monday morning, March 27th. There will be a congregational meeting April 2nd after combined services beginning at 10:30 a.m. at which time there will be an election for new officers for 1978. PERTH AMBOY, N. J. At the Annual Congregation meeting held on the last Sunday of January the following officers were elected: Chief- Elder Mr. Steven Katko, Vice-Presidents Mr. John Marincsak and Mr. William Pásztor, Treasurer Mr. John S. Kovács Jr., Assist. Treasurer Mr. Robert Zambo. Secretary Mr. Louis Medgyesi. New member elected to the church council is Mr. Robert Üveges. We congratulate all these fine men. Newly elected officers took over the leadership in our Women’s Guild as well. The elected officers were installed Sunday, February 5th, during our regular Sunday worship service, and received Holy Communion together. In honor of the newly elected officers in the individual organizations we held a Covered Dish Dinner for which invitation was extended to all our members. In spite of the bad weather the Installation Dinner was well attended. At the Annual Congregational Meetings always something very important is discussed. The main subject of our meeting was the 75th Anniversary of our church. A committee has been set up and will meet regularly to prepare the celebration fit for our church. The actual date of the celebration has not been discussed yet, but we will inform our readers of this date in advance. We are also planning an Anniversary Book which will give a general information of our church. We ask the cooperation of our members. Upon the coming of the winter weather our attendance in church or at social affairs has dropped. At one occasion five of our noodle making ladies were in hospitals, for which reason this activity had to be postponed. We hope that upon the coming of spring there will be a renewing in our dedication to our church as well. From our vital statistics. Marriage: On February 11, Saturday, Barry Knox and Pamela Wiget promised eternal love to each other. May God bless them in their united life. Funeral: at the age of 50 our brother Mr. Patrick Moran has been called home by God. May God bless the sorrowing members of his family. In September, we received our new pastor, Debra M. Johnson, who is the first woman to serve as the pastor of a church in our denomination. A graduate of Connecticut College and Yale Divinity School, she will soon be ordained into the Hungarian Reformed Church sometime after Easter. In October the Youth Fellowship was reorganized, and our Junior and Senior High students have been enthusiastic participants in many events. At Christmas they held a toy drive for the patients at Embreville Hospital in Pennsylvania, and also celebrated the holidays with a pot luck supper at the parsonage. On February 26, they held a very successful pancake breakfast for the congregation. Confirmation and Post-confirmation classes are being conducted for the same group of young people. David Johnson, who is Rev. Johnson’s husband and a doctoral student in Church History at Princeton Theological Seminary, has conducted a series of adult study classes. The topic for November was, “The Reformation,” and the current Lenten Study is centered on the Sermon on the Mount. We observed the custom of lighting the Advent Candle in a special way this year. Members of our church school read portions of Martin Luther’s Christmas Sermons and appropriate Scripture verses. It was an opportunity for us to learn more about
