MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 15 On Monday, June 6, the Women’s Guild-Lorantffy Nőegylet held their year-end dinner at the Jade Restaurant in Bordentown. Congratulations to our high school graduates, Nancy Bartha and Darrell Soltész. Nancy graduated with honors and Darrell won an award for his musi­cal talents. We wish them both well in their plans for the future! Best wishes also to Ralph Cordero who graduated from Junior High! In September of 1976 Cherie J. Varga was killed at the age of 18 in a tragic automobile accident. There were many donations made in her memory. With the cooperation of her family, the Church Council decided on using the funds in a living memorial to her by starting a Cherie J. Varga Memorial Scholarship. Each year a high school senior at Florence High School will be given the award for the best overall scholastic improvement in four years of high school. The recipient this year was Robert Wargo who plans to attend Stockton State College. The award was made by Rev. Patch at Commencement Exercises on Wednesday, June 15th. The congregation welcomed Rev. Linda Block-Coalter to the pulpit on Sunday, June 26. On Friday, June 25th the women of the church got together to make some stuffed cabbage which was subsequent­ly donated to the Rescue Squad for sale at Funday in order to raise funds for equipment, etc. for the Squad. During the month we also had special participation on the part of the Sunday School for both Father’s Day and. Chil­dren’s Day. Fathers were presented with booklets and pretty carnations. STATEN ISLAND, N. Y. Last year, in 1976 the congregation joyously and thankfully celebrated its 60th anniversary. The members of the congregation have accepted new chal­lenges this year in that same spirit of Christian concern. For 1977 the annual meeting for a second year authorized the expenditure of $8,000 for church property mainte­nance, repair and renovation. Major expenses shall include a new shingle roof for the church building, renova­tion in the church kitchen and new vinyl siding on the parsonage. Total income for the 1976 year was $18,037.53 and expenses were $15,- 835.14, with a net balance on hand of $20,015.43. This balance reflected an increase of $2,202.39 over the previous year. Those serving as officers and mem­bers of the board of elders in 1977 are: Alexander Teryek, president; John Kosa, vice president; John F. Kosa, secretary; Mrs. Olga Szabó, treasurer; Steve Ambrus, Joseph Balia, Albert Kish, Alexander Kosa, Charles Kosa, Rolf Krambach, Jeffrey Nemeth and John Rodvansky. The officers of the Women’s Guild are: Mrs. Edna MacDonald, president; Mrs. Rose Kosa, vice president; Mrs. Helen Cutler, secretary; and Mrs. Joan Nemeth, treasurer. For Mother’s Day the men of the congregation prepared and served a dinner after the morning worship ser­vices. The Women’s Guild honored the fathers at a Father’s Day dinner. The fourth annual church picnic was held on July 17 in the church yard. Dur­ing the pastor’s vacation, Dr. Andrew Kosa and Chaplain Ernest Kosa sup­plied the pulpit. The annual bazaar of the Women’s Guild will be held on two Saturdays, Sept. 24 and Oct. 1. TRENTON, N. J. At the three Communion Services of the Easter season 425 communicants received the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper. The Rev. Dr. Nicholas Nyary was our assisting minister. Miss Margaret I. Vágott, church mem­ber and director of the County Welfare Department, was honored by the Lorantffy Society and many of her friends and co-workers, on March 13th, an the occasion of her retirement. Mrs. Margaret Ture, the first woman city clerk, our church member, was honored by a testimonial dinner on April 17th, sponsored by all the Hun­garian churches and organizations of Trenton. Our church most sincerely congratu­lates both Miss Vágott and Mrs. Ture for their great achievements. Baptism: Jessica Leigh, the child of Mr. and Mrs. John Mario Arietano, was baptized on April 24th. Godpar­ents: Allen Moscetti and Joyce Fitz­gerald. Marriages. March 19th: László Sza­bó and Erika Hanes, in Philadelphia. April 30: Bruce Paul Kubernuk and Terry Lynn Giese. Funerals. March 25: John Süveg, March 31: Mrs. Elek Szabó, April 12: John R. Kerekes, April 14: Matyas Horvath, April 18: Mrs. Mary Toth, April 25: Mrs. Susan Cordak, April 27: Joseph Erzak, May 2: Mrs. Edith Giallella, May 4: Mrs. Thomas Ku­­ronya. Layman Sunday was held in our church on March 27th, with the par­ticipation of Mr. Kenneth Ture, Mr. Walter Katona, Mr. John Catalfamo and Mr. John Waldner. A successful Spaghetti Supper was held by the Sunday School on April 16th. Pancake-sausage breakfast was ar­ranged by the Young Married Couples Club on Mother’s Day, May 8th. On Mother’s Day, the mothers were honored by flowers after the worship services. The annual conference of the Church Women United of the Eastern Area of our denomination was held in our church on May 1st. About 150 persons were present both from the sister con­gregations and the Trenton church. Rev. and Mrs. Stefan Török from Perth Amboy explained the Biblical meaning of “spiritual new birth”, in a Hunga­rian and English lectures. A serious discussion followed the well-prepared addresses. The chairperson of the con­ference was Mrs. Margaret Connor, church member, the current president of the Church Women United. A fel­lowship supper closed the very succes­­ful conference. The following children, as members of the 1977 catechism class, were con­firmed on May 22nd: Imre Bogár, Ste­ven Beke, Ida Czap, Ronald Czap, Tara Didrence, Barbara Engi, Daniel T. Kuronya, Linda Levandusky, Charles Metzger, Linda Metzger, Jeno Pallocs­­ka, Kimberly Walter. Their first com­munion was on Pentecost. Our church contributed $500.00 to­ward the cost of the new church in Ontario, California, which is under construction. A new dish washer was installed in the school kitchen. It cost $4,000.00. Weddings. May 14: Jay Alan Schoel­­kopf and Phyllis Ventigli, May 21: Paul Rush and Catherine Hurley, also on May 21: John Demko and Mede­­line Yuhas, June 4: William Holzham­mer and Margaret Chialti and June 12: George Angyal and Ilonka Boka, were married in our church. Funerals. On May 4th Mrs. Thomas Kuronya and on May 21st Mrs. Joseph Sarovics were buried. Our Sunday School children and their parents enjoyed a bus trip on June 12th to Bertrand Island, Mt. Arlington, N. J. The Sunday School and our weekly Bible class will resume its important activities in September. Our Men’s Club had two bus trips in May and June. One was to Phila­delphia, the other to New York, to enjoy ballgames. The Women’s Guild, as a group, went to Philadelphia for a dinner party, on June 5th.
