12 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ The first pancake breakfast of the New Year by the Golden Circle Club is scheduled for February 6th. CARTERET, N. J. Christmastide celebrations were richly blessed: there were good size congregations at services and our people made generous donations to the various church causes. The Youth Fellowship visited forty families and sang Christmas carols in their homes. At the Sunday School Christmas program in the church the traditional “Nativity Scene” was all live for the first time: the Miller-infant was in the crib. Twenty-eight members shared holy communion in their homes; fifteen of these on One evening in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Sebok, Sr. At the close of the prayer service on New Year’s Eve the vital statistics from 1976 were read: 5 babies were baptized, 5 young people confirmed, 5 couples married, 9 members buried. On January 1, the New Year’s Day congregation visited the parsonage following the worship service; here the Pastor’s family and the congregation wished each other a blessed new year. The Junior Women’s Guild elected the following new officers: Mrs. Betty Matto for president, Mrs. Janet Gudmestad for vice-president, Mrs. Judy Sendelsky for secretary, Mrs. Marge Jensen for treasurer and Mrs. Bertha Cromwell for chaplain. Wedding: Edward Robert Fitzpatrick and Karen Lynn Papp, on December 18. Burials: Mrs. Joseph Bartus, Sr. who was born as Julia Mizsák in Pálháza, Zemplén county almost 100 years ago, died in Florida and was buried from the Carteret church on December 22. Five generations mourn her, and our congregation of which she had been a member for 80 years. — Michael Beres, born in Carteret 59 years ago, on December 27. DUQUESNE, PA. The Christmas Season was celebrated more or less according to our plans, as it was published in the December issue, as the weather permitted. On Christmas Day 135 members received communion in church and in their homes. Our Annual Congregational Meeting and Fellowship Dinner was held by postponement one week later, on February 6th. The Meeting passed the expansion of our church kitchen, and authorized church council to accept bids, subject to approval at a special congregational meeting, called directly for that purpose and for adjusting the salaries of some employees of the church. The meeting also amended the congregational rules and regulations; and voted for a raise in the Pastor’s salary. The following officers and new members of the council were elected: Chief Elder: Frank Demes; Assistant Elders: William Kennedy and Joseph Walker; Secretary: Frank Demes; Treasurer: Eileen Jenulevich. New members on council: Robert Cross, Eileen Jenulevich, Robert Kish and Donald Koester. Council has 17 elected members and the Sunday School Superintendent by virtue of her office at the present time. Financial Report on 1976: Income: $36,013.63 (inch 1975 bal. and transfers); Expenses: $32,289.52; Savings Accounts: $24,776.76. Weddings — the following couples were united in the bond of matrimony: Robert Wargo and Diana Davis on January 21st; Stephan Sabo and Amy Anastas on February 12th — both couples in our sanctuary; Ralph De- Cecco and Valera Cutson were married in St. Perpetua’s Church on February 6th with the pastor performing part of the ceremony. Funeral: Mrs. Helen Szabó, 83, was buried from our church on December 31st. Interment followed in our cemetery. McKeesport, pa. The election of the new officers and elders took place last November. The financial and other reports were given at the Congregational Meeting on January 30. The regular and special payments toward the mortgage in the year 1976 exceeded $54,000.00. At the end of 1976 our mortgage loan from the Hungarian Reformed Federation decreased under $75,000.00. Our past chief-elder, Joseph Szarka said at the meeting that a fire severely damaged the old Sunday School Building on 7th Street, and the insurance paid $8,047.20 on January 10. In 1976 there were: baptisms 2; marriages 2; confirmed 3; funerals 8; moved 5. Our congregational dinner scheduled for February 6 was postponed because of the severe cold and energy crisis. Baptism: Cory Morgan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Brindza, Alabama, was baptized in our church on December 26. Godparents are: Joseph Brindza, Irwin; Elizabeth, McKeesport; and Randal Simmons, Dianne Martin, both from Alabama. PERTH AMBOY, N. J. By the grace of God we reached another year, yet our report would like to deal mostly with 1976, with the year that will be a memorable year to many of us. It was a year when our nation celebrated its Bicentennial, when the Reformed Federation celebrated its 80th Anniversary, and who knows what made it for you a memorable year. Looking back into the passed Christmas Holidays however something makes me think, that it was not an exceptionally good year. Our attendance in the services was a bit lower than we expected it, however participation in the Holy communion was satisfactory. The Christmas Holidays were celebrated by our members in our beautifully decorated church. The Christmas tree this year as in the past was a donation of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Racz. We wish to extend our thanks to them for their donation. The Christmas tree was decorated by the members of the Christian Youth Fellowship. This was the first occasion that we ever displayed nativity set in our church, for the satisfaction of our members. The nativity set was a donation of Miss Helen Cető, who made the ceramic figures, and painted them as well. We thank her also for her thoughtful Christmas gift. The big advent wreath was a gift of the Vollman Flower shop, while the flowers — poinsettias — were donations of our church organizations and members, who made flower donations through the year. There was also a special flower donation made by the Kaufmann family in the memory of the Wte Mr. Joseph L. Seemann. The Holiday came to. an end and a certain feeling settles upon the hearts of men. Will this mean that our Christianity will come to an end, at least till another holiday. Our hope is in that, that the newborn babe of Bethlehem, God’s only begotten Son, will make a miracle with us too, and his calling words will be heard by ptir members as well. Come unto me and I shall give you rest, that our members will come and will have a desire in their hearts to hear him every Sundáy on the coming year. At this time we would like to give our vital statistics from the past year: baptism 8, funerals 11, weddings 3, confirmation 10. This new year on which we entered is unknown to all of us, but with trusting hearts we hope to make it a successful year. It can become successful however only if we will walk on the right paths. We must have good leaders to lead us on the paths of righteousness. Our congregational meeting will be held if the quorum is met on January 23. Sunday morning after a combined church service, or on January
