MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 7 NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS AKRON, OHIO Our church income during the year of 1975 was $36,280.11, our church expenses $39,768.26. We had $25,804.72 in our church treasury on Dec. 31, 1975. During 1975 we received $71,018.44 donation for our Lorantffy Care Cen­ter. On March 13 we blessed the marriage of Mr. John Kovács with Miss Linda Knox. Witnesses were James Wells and Rose Harsh. We celebrated “Hungarian Freedom Day” in our church on March 14 with a banquet. Our guest speaker was Rev. Paul Kantor from Fairport Harbour. After the banquet our minister and Ft. Dr. György Mészáros catholic priest blessed the new Lorantffy minibus. The cost of the beautiful new minibus was 7,000 dollars. Funerals. On February 12, György Hornyak 77, and on March 4 Elizabeth Mocsary 87. The 15th anniversary of the Dorcas Guild was observed on February 29-th, tribute was paid to the charter members who formed this wonderful organization and to all members who helped during the past years. Camille Bosak, presi­dent, introduced the officers and Mrs. Helen Kaplar narrated the history of 15 years. The Ladies’ Aid Society helped to prepare the banquet, and the Men’s Guild served. March 15th Hungarian Indepen­dence Day was celebrated at Holy Cross Church auditorium with the participa­tion of all churches and organizations of Detroit metropolitan area. The Dorcas Guild had a very suc­cessful fund raising bake sale for fur­nishing the bishop’s study in the new parsonage: they raised over $1,400.­­Thanks to all who helped. The Ladies’ Aid Society donated the curtains and draperies for the new par­sonage. The elders painted the base­ment and performed other services around the building. Thanks to the wonderful leaders and members. The executive board meeting of the Bethlen Youth Federation was held in our church on March 27. A special Easter letter will be sent to all members with the schedule of ser­vices for the holiday. A religious festival was held in the City Hall auditorium on February 22 by all the churches to celebrate the 200th anniversary of America. Our choirs sang and Mrs. Betty Kish pre­pared a special church banner for this occasion. The Easter and Holy Week schedule of worship services of word and sacra­ment will be sent out to all church families in the last week of March. There will be a bilingual communion service on Holy Thursday evening for which the liturgy will be printed in both languages so everyone can follow it in the language of preference. The traditional “Installation Dinner” will take place on Sunday, March 21. It will also be the occasion of commemor­ation of the March 15 Hungarian na­tional holiday. Two major building projects have been completed: new ceiling and light­ing fixtures in Bethlen Hall ($4,860) and improvement on the heating in­stallation of the church ($1,860). Next project is the painting of the inside of the church. Funeral: William A. Fabian, 48, who died in Florida, was buried on March 2 from the Carteret church; he was a life­long member and moved to Florida only about a year ago. Pastor Harsanyi attended the 300th anniversary celebration of the liberation of the Hungarian galley-slaves in Deb­recen, Hungary. At the session of the church history department of the Doc­tors’ College he also gave a paper on the galley-slave liberation celebrations in America. During his absence the Carteret pulpit was supplied by the Rev. Gabor Nitsch; the organist’s sup­ply was Mrs. Elsie Löké. DUQUESNE, PA. Baptism: On February 29 we accepted Charles Robert, the son of Robert Cross Jr. and his wife the former Charlene Nagy into the fellowship of our congre­gation by the Sacrament of Holy Bap­tism. Godparents were Nick Fuller and his wite, the former Cookie Tornai. Communion: On March 7, the first Sunday in Lent, we celebrated Holy Communion. 135 church members at­tended communion in church and in their homes. The Sunday School sponsored a bake sale on March 14 with excellent finan­cial results. This will help to finance planned field trips. McKeesport, pa. We had our congregational dinner on January 25. At this time, Mr. Joseph Szarka, chief-elder presented Mr. Rob­ert Jordanhazy with a digital watch who resigned after 13 years of service as the treasurer of the church. The Lord’s Supper was served on March 7, the first Sunday in Lent. Those of our shut-ins who wished to take the Lord’s Supper took the Holy Communion at their homes. Worship services at Easter time: April 15, Thursday: English at 7:00 P.M. — Lord’s Supper. April 16, Good Friday: Hungarian at 11:00 a.m.; Eng­lish at 7:00 P.M. April 19, Hungarian Service at 11:00 A.M. Funeral: Alex Meszar, 59, died on March 9. Funeral Service was held on March 12. Officiating were Rev. Kal­man A. Gondocz and Rt. Rev. At our Congregational meeting held last month, the following members were elected to lead the congregation in this 1976th year; Chief Elder Steven Katko; First Vice-President Andrew Lovász; Second Vice-President John Marincsak; Secretary Stephen Blaho; Treasurer John S.
