12 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ PERTH AMBOY, N. J. On the first Sunday of the Month we have participated in the Conference of the United Church Women, which was held at our sister Church in Roebling, New Jersey. Our ladies were very glad to participate at this conference, which dealt with the theme, “LOVE IS...” On May 11, we celebrated Mother’s Day. All the mothers were greeted with flowers presented by the Women’s Guild. On Ascension Thursday, the holiday of the Ascension of Our Lord, combined services were held at 7:00 P.M. Attendance on this church service was satisfactory. On May 18 we celebrate with all Christians of the World the Birthday of the Church, when the Holy Spirit was sent according to the promise of Christ, Pentecost. At this occasion the confirmation of our senior class will be held. Those confirmed were accepted into our church as adult members of our congregation. The end of the month our Senior Women’s Club will have their yearly Chinese Auction, which we hope will be a successful affair. Some of our elders are preparing tnemselves to the upcoming Synod Meeting in Ligonier, when we shall discuss the new By-laws. HUNGARIAN COOK BOOK Sixth Edition Order from: THE WOMEN’S GUILD 331 Kirkland Place Perth Amboy, N. J. 08861 ROEBLING, N. J. Our little congregation was very active through the month of April and May. We had very successful Kolbász and Donut Sales. We are also working on the organization of our Church’s 60th Anniversary, which will be held on October 19. This year our Church was the host for the 16th Annual Conference of Church Women United. The Women’s Guilds and the Elders made all effort to host the delegates. Both the Hungarian and English speakers gave their best, and the delegates seemed very pleased with them. The program started with a short Service, which was followed by the two lectures in two different groups. Later the two groups met again to elect officers for the Conference. The evening ended with a community supper, where 110 people shared the blessings of the good Hungarian kitchen. As summer approaches the congregation cleaned the huge and beautiful picnic ground, to welcome everybody. Our young minister will serve us in the summer months on full-time basis, and will live with his mother in the parsonage. Funeral: Mr. Andrew Melsky died of a heart attack April 15, and was buried on April 19. STATEN ISLAND, N. Y. In 1976 the congregation will observe its 60th anniversary. In preparing for this event, which occurs in the American Bicentennial year, a historical census will be prepared. The census will also seek to provide some direction for the future of the congregation. At the annual meeting of the congregation, the treasurer reported that income in 1974 was $12,874 and expenses amounted to $9,883, with a net balance of $12,325. He sang beautiful, moving Hungarian folksongs, accompanied by Mrs. Rosemarie Noone, concert pianist. Our Hungarian community greatly appreciated this cultural program.
