MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 11 NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS AKRON, OHIO Presently we have 60 residents and patients in the Lorantffy Care Center. We can still accept 32 or 33 more resi­dents or patients during the coming months. Young people who will graduate this year shall be honored in our church on Sunday, June 8. Please notify the church office if you have “grads” in your family. The plans of the new parsonage are ready and prepared by Mr. Stephen Gaspar, architect. Construction will start soon. After their public examination the following eight young people were con­firmed on Mother’s Day: Stephen Rob­ert Fabian, Robin Marie Finn, Sandra Lee Katko, Carol Ann Kovács, Julie Marie Legeny, Jason Roy Milak, De­nise Arlene Palmer and William Char­les Smith, Jr. They joined the congre­gation in holy communion on Pentecost Sunday. The steeple of the church was badly damaged by windstorm. Mrs. Helen Nemish was re-elected English secretary of United Church Women at their annual conference in Roebling. Nine women — eight from the Lorantffy Society — attended to­gether with the Pastor and John Nem­ish, Chief Elder of the diocese. Baptisms: Dawn Marie, daughter of Robert Fischer and his wife, the former Mary Hoehler on April 6; godparents: Joseph Fischer and Mrs. Diane Hickey; Marlee Ruth, daughter of Michael Ko­vács, Jr. and his wife, the former Nancy Amundson on May 5; godparents: Al­bert and Helen Hansen. Pastor Dr. Harsanyi and his wife were in Hungary, Austria and Germany attending to family affairs; the Carte­ret pulpit was supplied for three Sun­days by Dr. Andrew Kosa; Mrs. Elsie Loke substituted as organist. DUQUESNE, PA. The Annual Spring Women’s Con­ference of Western Pennsylvania was held at our church on May 4. After several lectures on the past and present of the Hungarian Reformed churches in America a panel discussion followed on the subject of our churches’ future. 130 women attended the conference, which was followed by a dinner hosted by ladies of our church. The offering and the net income was designated for the Hungarian Reformed Radio Pro­gram of Pittsburgh and vicinity. Five girls were admitted into com­municant membership in our church by the rite of confirmation: Carla Bence, Suzan Cheke, Debra Heyz, Susan Kish and Shari Zeleznik. Confirmation took place on Mother’s Day, May 11. On May 18, Pentecost Sunday the confirmed received their first com­munion with their parents, and families. A reception in honor of the confirma­tion class and graduates followed the services. McKeesport, pa. We celebrated Mother’s Day during a combinend worship service on May 11th. The Sunday School honored the mothers with a delightful program. The ladies received red carnations. At 12:00 noon the Mother’s Day Dinner, prepared by the men, was one of the best at­tended. It was served by the men with the help of the young girls. Gifts were given to the oldest, youngest mothers, to the one with the most children and the fourth was given out by chance. The confirmation took place on May 4. Our confirmands were: Enikő Gön­­döcz, Paul Hallick, Debbie Sakas and Elizabeth Szarka. They answered ques­tions both in Hungarian and in English. We celebrated Pentecost with the Lord’s Supper served at both services. Our confirmands took part in the Lord’s Supper accompanied by mem­bers of their families. The Annual Spring Women’s Con­ference of Western Pennsylvania was held on May 4. Many of our ladies at­tended the conference. Mrs. Kalman Göndöcz, the minister’s wife, took part in the service with a prayer. Congratulations: Mr. William Orris Jr., was May’s recipient of the city’s Police Officer of the Month Award. Inducted into the Honor Society of the McKeesport Area Senior High School were the following young people of our church: Daniel Arokhaty, Patty Balogh, Tünde Göndöcz, Kathy Hazafi, and David Such. Lynne A. Serfozo, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Szarka received her Bachelor of Science Degree summa cum laude from the University of Pitts­burgh on April 27th. The same day she announced her engagement to Mr. Vin­cent James DeVincentis. Mr. Andrew Panko, our secretary, and his wife celebrated their 25th wed­ding anniversary on April 27. On May 3rd Mr. and Mrs. Alex Banyacsky celebrated their 50th wedding anniver­sary. The Church Council decided to pay $12,000.00 as extra payment on the mortgage.
