10 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS AKRON, OHIO The construction of the Lorantffy Care Center is going according to the schedule. The plumbers finished the underground work during the first half of January. The work on the walls of the Care Center has started on January 28th. According to the plans the Lo­rantffy Care Center should be ready and fully equipped during the month of July 1974. Because of the steadily upgoing prices and the unexpected ex­penses we need further donations. We request the financial help of our breth­ren during the coming months. During the Christmas holidays big congregations celebrated the birth of our Lord Jesus in our church. We received blessed spiritual treasures through the holy word and through the holy communion. On Christmas Day 163 participated in the holy communion and 16 old persons received the holy ele­ments in nursing homes and in hospi­tals. Our income during the Christmas holidays: $2,346.­On December 23rd during the Hun­garian Worship Service we baptized Kristóf Levente Batizy, who is the son of Dr. and Mrs. Levente Batizy. God­parents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bock. The new officers of our Dorcas Guild are: Honorary President Mrs. Elizabeth Domotor, President Mrs. Margaret Race, Vice President Mrs. Helen Far­kas, Secretary Mrs. Ann Druga, Trea­surer Mrs. Ann Sala, Sunshine Fund Mrs. Ann Bukovey, Chaplain Mrs. Ann Druga. May God bless richly the Dorcas Guild and make the work of the new officers blessed among us. May God comfort her loved ones with the hope of the resur­rection. ALLEN PARK, MICH. During the Christmas holiday the Rev. Huba Nagymate, student at Wes­tern Seminary, Holland, Michigan, ser­ved as the holiday assistant. The con­gregation gave generously toward his further study expenses. In 1973 according to our church register there were 23 baptisms, 14 confirmations, 15 marriages and 27 members deceased. In each of the past two years 16 members died, this past year’s losses were tragically high! The Sunday School had a very fine holiday program and the various organ­izations shared in the season with spe­cial activities. The Men’s Guild con­tinued its very fine project of collecting food and money and aiding a number of needy families and individuals. Mr. Kenneth Parker did an outstanding job in heading this program. Much work has gone into prepara­tions for the annual Pork Supper and Dance, planned for Saturday, January 26th. Church organizations are in the pro­cess of electing officers for the new year. Baptism: Kelly Kathleen, daughter of Marvin and Marlene McCormick, on Christmas Eve. Godparents are Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Bartók. Deaths: Helen Deak (Mrs. William), on Dec. 11; Elizabeth Chwierut (Mrs. Louis), on Jan. 9. May the God of all comfort be with the bereaved families. Our congregation was founded 33 years ago. On Jan. 5, 1941, the move­ment for congregational independence led to the formation of this fellowship of faith. May God grant His guidance in the future and His blessing to all His people. Good-size congregations filled the church during the holiday season with an especially large one on Christmas Eve. Very gratifying was the work of our caroling Youth Fellowship who went to many homes and were joyfully re­ceived. The Junior Women’s Guild elected a new slate of officers: Mrs. Fran Nagy president, Mrs. Helen Sheridan vice­­president, Mrs. Judy Sendelsky secre­tary (100 Devon Road, Colonia, N. J. 07067), Mrs. Marge Jensen treasurer, Mrs. Bertha Cromwell chaplain. Wedding: Edward Florian Freeman and Sandra Marie Varga on January 5. Baptism: Christine Kathleen, daugh­ter of Mihály Farkas and his wife the former Katalin Saxon on December 23; godparents: Alex George and Mrs. Jo­lán Lakatos. Vital statistics for 1973: baptized 4, confirmed 5, married 7 couples, buried 12 members. Preliminary financial state­ment: $37,832 receipts, $36,474 expens­es, leaving $1,359 net balance. DUQUESNE, PA. Baptism: Matthew Sean Skalican, the son of Mark Skalican and his wife, the former Christine Estu was baptized in our church on January 20th. Godpar­ents were Mr. and Mrs. Michael Robbe. Funeral: Mrs. Gladys Szep, a mem­ber in good standing of many years, on January 2nd. During the Christmas Season 182 members received Holy Communion in church or in their homes. Rev. Barnabas Roczey, the president of the Hungarian Protestant Ministerial Association of Pittsburgh and vicinity Served with our pastor on Christmas Day, at both services. Our annual congregational meeting and fellowship dinner was held on the last Sunday of January, January 27th. Our Women’s Club sent Christmas gifts to every resident of the Children’s Home and the Old People’s Home, Bethlen Home, Ligonier. McKeesport, pa. On Dec. 23, during the English ser­vice Mrs. Frank Halas presented a check for $7,000.00 on behalf of the Women’s Guild to the church. This generous gift of the Guild made possible the payment of $12,000.00 into the mortgage. The new officers of the Women’s Guild elected on Dec. 11 are: President Mrs. William Arokhaty, Vice-President Mrs. Edith Rausch, Treasurer Mrs. An­drew Panko, Secretary Mrs. Nicholas Shusner, Sunshine Lady Mrs. John Olyarnik.
