8 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ MAGYAR CHURCH THANKSGIVING November is the month of Thanksgiving Day. Truly we all should look into the past and take into account WHY we ought to give thanks to our Heavenly Father. Attend church every blessed Sunday and give thanks to God for all the blessings He has showered upon you. Let your whole life be a continuous “thanksgiving” to our gracious Heavenly Father! Dezső Abraham, Bishop We ought to give thanks to God for our food which He has so bountifully supplied to us here in America, so much so, that He not only supplied our needs, but we can help other nations around the globe, who are less fortunate than we are. Oh, how thankful we all ought to be for our daily bread and the manifold blessings we take for granted and enjoy day by day. Then think about your “family,” the members of your household, your children, parents, relatives and loved ones. The wonderful influence of your parents who taught you to be faithful, true and honest to your fellowmen, to be a friend of the friendless, a helper of the helpless and to be what you are today. Give thanks to Almighty God for blessing you with good parents, children, and all who are dear and close to your heart, when you shall gather together with your family on Thanksgiving Day. Did you ever stop to give thanks to our Heavenly Father for your church? Built by loyal ancestors? Because God inspired men and women to build our Hungarian Reformed Churches in the United States of America. During the 80 years of history our Lord showed His people the way to build one church after another, until the present day when we worship in beautiful and modern up to date edifices. Don’t you think, that we ought to give thanks to Almighty God for the 50 years, that our Free Hungarian Reformed Church was organized in Duquesne, Pa.? One may add to these blessings more reasons why we ought to give thanks to God, f. e. do we give thanks to our Heavenly Father for our country, for our schools, libraries, hospitals, and other institutions in the nation? For you cannot find anything similar to these blessings in many other parts of the world. You ought to give thanks to Almighty God for your health, for your opportunity to work, your home, for friends, without whom life would be empty, dull and miserable. Dr. László Harangi: SPEAKING FACE TO FACE This sermon was delivered on the Fortieth Anniversary Worship Service of Rt. Rev. Louis Nagy on October 17, 1974. Scriptures: Exodus 33:13-18 Text: 33:11,16 We bad a favorite pastime at Sárospatak, when we had studied there in the College some forty years ago. We went for a hike in the nearby mountains not only for the fresh, clean and clear air for our lungs, not only to look for some left-over grapes on the slopes of the rising hills, but for something which lifted us above the daily events of the world, which at that time struggled with depression. We went up the mountain and looked for the only place out of the mountain path, where we could see the Castle of Füzér built high on a volcanic cone. That one place gave us perspective to see the ruined white walls where in the stormy past of Hungarian History the golden crown of the Hungarian Kings was once guarded for years from the oncoming Turks. The message of the past became a living presence as we looked at the faraway castle as its ruined white walls shined, glittered, and gleamed in the afternoon sun. We look for a perspective from which we could interpret, understand, appreciate and give thanks to God for the forty years, our friend, tiszteletes Nagy Lajos, Pastor Louis Nagy has spent in the work of our Lord One perspective can be, of course, to listen to him as he preaches. His well-thought, theologically sound and beautifully worded messages convince us that here is a servant of God, who conscientiously prepares for the greatest task on earth: to give God’s message to his wandering, suffering people, to strengthen the weak hands, to comfort the failing hearts. He is well equipped with the gospel of peace, armored with the helmet of salvation and with the
