10 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ Deaths are listed in the Hungarian section of the news. CARTERET, N. J. The September 9 Chinese Auction sponsored by the Junior Women’s Guild can be registered as a great success: fine leadership, excellent cooperation among the members, a large crowd, loads of fun, and very good financial results. The Youth Fellowship with eleven members and two advisors was one of the larger delegations at the B.Y.F. annual conference. William M. Kantor and Miss Wendy Lazar from the Carteret Y. F. were elected national president and national secretary, respectively. Locally, the new officers of the Y. F. are the following: William M. Kantor president, Kenneth Lukach vicepresident, Wendy Lazar secretary, Robert Lukach treasurer, Leonard Drew Sendelsky sergeant-at-arms. No permanent chaplain was elected, opening devotions will be conducted by a different member each meeting. It was also decided to have a discussion at every other meeting in addition to business and social activities. Preparations are nearing completion for the November 2 Annual Dinner which —- thanks to the more than generous donation of $11,000 by the Lorantfy Society — will include a mortgage burning ceremony. The church is now debt-free. A great number of our members attended the Hungarian Festival in the Garden State Art Center on September 14. In addition, several from our church took part in the work of preparation and five of our ladies were members of the Kodály Choir. DUQUESNE, PA. Communions: Harvest Home Communion was observed on August 4th. 120 members of our church received the holy elements, including our sick and shut-ins. World-Wide Communion was observed on October 6th. 180 of our members received communion at this occasion. Again, the sick and shut-ins are included. Our church council decided to replace the old tool-shed next door to the church with a brand new cement block building. Members of council demolished the old shed, and construction of the new one is well on the way. McKeesport, pa. The Annual Conference of the Presbiters’ Association, held on September 2-3 in Ligonier was attended by the officers of our church. The Lord’s Supper was served on World-Wide Communion Sunday, October 6 at both worship services. It was well attended. Prior to the Lord’s Supper we had preparatory service on October 3, Thursday. English at 7:00 P.M., Hungarian at 7:30 P.M. The son, William, of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brindza has been named as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America for 1974, and their daughter-in-law, Betty, as one of the Outstanding Young Women of America for 1974. Herb Gibson, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Gibson, a graduate with a Bachelor of Science (University of Alabama) accepted a teaching and coaching position at the Tuscaloosa Area Vocational High School in Alabama. We are in the preparation of the 40th Anniversary of the Ordination and Ministry of the Rt. Rev. Louis Nagy on October 27. Of the 40 years, he spent 20 years in McKeesport as the pastor of this congregation. A special worship service will be in the afternoon at 4:00 P.M. followed by an Anniversary Banquet at 6:00 P.M. The proceeds of the banquet will go to the Building Fund of the church. Hungarian lessons were started on Wednesday, October 9 with 14 students. We expect more to come. The minister’s wife made plans to organize a Hungarian Girls Scout Troop. The International Village, mentioned before in the Magyar Church, on August 20, 21, and 22 was a greater success than expected. The Women’s Guild cleared almost 4,000.00 dollars The Proposed Revision of the Constitution and By-Laws was discussed by elders and members of the church. But we found out that it needs more time to make serious study and recommendations. We hope that the congregations and the elders and also the ministers of our denomination will be involved more actively to make a new Constitution and By-Laws acceptable and workable. PERTH AMBOY, N. J. The month of September is like a new beginning: when after a long summer everyone returns home, and returns to the church where in the last couple months empty pews were evidences of the inactivity in the life of our congregation. However, right at the beginning of this new month; as if someone had pushed the start button on a machine, “we turned on”. Our people came back, our church pews were filling once again, and we sat down around the tables to discuss the future of our church, organize new activities and occasions for further fellowship and spiritual growth. As we stated evenything was new, including our pastor as well. Rev. Stefan M. Torok accepted the invitation of our church to become our pastor and moved from the Hungarian Reformed Church of Roebling, N. J. to this congregation that with his services he may work among us as our spiritual leader. As the minister was new, the parsonage became almost new as well. Many renovations took place to beautify the home of the pastor and his family. At this time we would like to thank and express our deepest appreciation to the church members and leaders for their warm welcome given to Rev. Torok and his family. Now let us share with you some of the activities we have participated in recently. Our Christian Youth Fellowship sponsored this year’s Annual Bethlen Youth Conference with the assistance of the Roebling youth fellowship, at Camp Silver Lake in Tockholm, New Jersey, the theme being “Christianity vs. the Occults”. It proved to be very worthwhile in educating us in the activities of Satan and his evil power in the world. Our elders participated in the Presbyters Association Meeting held in Ligonier, Pa. Our pastor has also participated in the Ministerial Associations meetings in Ligonier, Pa. In September when the educational instructions open their door once again, we also began the Christian education of our children for their Confirmation. Our children, just as in the years before, will be instructed in two classes.
