12 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ and Christmas day our church was filled with the faithful. About 70% of those who have the right to take Communion appeared before the Lord’s Table. Before Christmas Carolers visited the members of our congregation. Due to bad weather they were unable to visit every church member, however considering the situation there were not too many homes where they did not go. Our heartfelt thanks to those who went out to announce the birth of Christ with songs. On December 2nd we observed Orphanage Sunday. The Right Rev. Louis Nagy, director of the Bethlen Home proclaimed the Gospel. On December 10th we baptized Michael Raymond, the son of Mr. Raymond Ernest Kish and his wife Mary Lou Sheely. Godparents: Albert Tarcy and La Verne Marie Tinal. Funerals: On October 29th we buried Mr. William (Béla) Veres. The Lord called him home after 53 years on this earth. On November 26th we buried at the same time Mrs. Michael George and Mr. Matthew Mrakovich. Mrs. Michael George, whom the Lord called home after 83 years here was a faithful member of the congregation and the Ladies Aid for many-many years. Her son-inlaw Mr. Matthew Mrakovich, whom the Lord called home at the age of 65, was a member of the Church Council. On December 7th we buried Mrs. Julia Canter, whom the Lord called home at the age of 66. The comforting power of God be with the sorrowing families. YOUTH NEWS Bethlen Youth Federation A former president of the Bethlen Youth Federation, the Rev. Albert W. Kovács, has recently been elected the president of Pennsylvania’s largest prolife organization, Pennsylvanian’s for Human Life. A native New Jerseyan, he assisted the Rev. Alexander Daroczy in church school and youth work in the Carteret Hungarian Reformed Church in 1951 to 1953, during the years he was attending Lancaster Theological Seminary. PHL is a statewide group organized to defend the right to life of every human being, from conception to natural death. Believing that every life is created by God in his Providence, as did the signers of the Declaration of Independence, PHL conducts a steady educational campaign all year round of citizens and legislators, Christians and Jews, believers and atheists, adults and young people. The Rev. Kovács and his associates work especially these days to prevent the taking of human life by abortion and euthanasia. They point out that over a million abortions are taking place in America, since the U. S. Supreme Court authorized abortion on demand last January 22nd, 1973. They add that in at least three state legislatures bills have been introduced to allow the killing of aged, handicapped and mentally deficient citizens. The group is quick to point out that this reminds them too readily of Hitler’s elitist philosophy, where only the superior were to live and build a new superior race, and that the will of God is contravened, since life is by His just and holy will to all as he deems fit for His eternal purposes. PHL is affiliated with the National Right to Life Committee, and is working to educate citizens in a pro-life stance. They hope that enough Americans will reject the deadly elitist philosophy, and encourage their legislators in Washington and home to pass a Human Rights Amendment to the Constitution, to protect life from the time it is given by God to his littlest children to the time he himself concludes that span on earth. Január 28-án megkezdődött az Otthon falainak építése. Az építkezési vállalkozó tervei szerint az Otthon 1974 július végére beköltözésre készen lesz. Karácsonyi ünnepségeink mindannyiunk számára emlékezetes lelki kincseket tartogattak. 163 testvérünk élt az úrvacsora áldásaival templomunkban, 16 testvérünk kórházban vagy öreg otthonban vette magához a szent jegyeket. Karácsonyi ünnepköri bevételünk 2,-346.00 dollár volt. December 23-án megkereszteltük Batizy Levente Kristófot, Dr. Batizy Levente és neje gyermekét. Egyházunkban 1973-ben 23 keresztelés (20 gyermek, 3 felnőtt), 15 házasságkötés és 27 temetés volt. Felvettünk 33 új tagot (19 felnőtt, 14 serdülő korú konfirmált). Egyházi szervezeteink 1973. évi működése kivétel nélkül eredményes volt. Gyülekezetünk 1941 január 5-én alakult. Egyháztanácsunknak ma már csak egyetlen olyan tagja van, aki az 1941-es kezdésnél is tisztségviselő volt: Köteles Károly algondnokunk. Elhunytak: Deák Béláné 1973 december 12-én és Chwierut Lajosné 1974 január 9-én. A feltámadott Úr Jézus vigasztalása legyen a mélyen sújtott gyászolókkal.
