MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 0 NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS AKRON, OHIO The church attendance was greater than ever before on our Easter Sunday worship services. 252 person partici­pated in the Holy Communion. Our church income was 3,220 dollars during the Easter Season services. Baptisms: Paul Charles Ágoston, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ágoston. God­parents are Charles and Myrtle Barta. Art Burt Szantay the son of Mr. and Mrs. Burt Szantay. Godparents are Desi and Elizabeth Kitley. May God bless the newly baptized children, their par­ents and their godparents. Funeral: Mrs. Valentine Kovács, 90, founding member of our church, on April 30th. May God bless her memory among us. Our annual musical church picnic will be held in the Saint Nicholas Park, Barberton, on July 22nd, Sunday. The famous Szitthay band will play and the well known Hungarian Theatre Dance Group will dance Hungarian Folk dances. On Ascension Day, May 31, we will unite to worship the risen and ascended Christ. The Lord’s Supper will be administered at both services on Pentecost, June 10th. The following week Trinity Sunday will round out the sequence begun on the first Lord’s Day in Advent: from the days of expectation to the fulfillment in the Triune God as made known to us this great holiday. The Christian Youth Fellowship is engaging in fund raising programs in preparation for the Annual Bethlen Youth Conference which will be under the leadership of our Akron group this Labor Day weekend. Plans have been completed for our second annual Hungarian Bible School. Classes will be held weekdays from 9 a.m. to noon, June 18 to 20. To date about twenty children have been en­rolled, nearly half of them from outside our congregation. Parents and grand­parents are encouraged to help our re­cruiting effort. The decline of so many of our congregations of Hungarian back­ground has followed the decline of study in the language of the fore­fathers. Our Pastor was elected to serve as President of the Association of Hun­garian Churches and Societies of Great­er Detroit. This body has been histor­ically a center for cooperative endeavor and is deeply involved in making Hun­garian life and history relevant parts of the scene in our metropolitan area. Miranda Elizabeth, daughter of Bruce and Priscilla Smith, was baptized on Sunday, April 29. Julian Lengyel died at the age of 56 on April 18, Vera Barczi died at the age of 87 on April 20, and Julia Nagy died on April 29 at the age of 88. May their families share in God’s comfort and mercy. On Good Friday we had a two-hour combined service. Father György Jani, pastor of the St. Stephen Hungarian Catholic Church of Allentown was our guest speaker. Our Easter worship service was well attended by the church members. The Women’s Club donated a new cover for the Lord’s Table. We are planning a trip to Ligonier, Pa. in the second part of June. The expenses will be paid by the church. A new Hungarian Flag was donated by Julius Szalai and his mother; a new American Flag by Edward Erdie and James Kovary and their families. James Walter Mattus and Emma Er­die, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Erdie, were united in Holy Matrimony. May God bless richly the newlyweds. CARTERET, N. J. Eastertide worship services were very well attended with around 250 sharing the sacrament of the Lord’s Table. Participation at the Holy Thurs­day evening communion gained in at­tendance. The examination of five senior and 7 junior year confirmands will take place in the sanctuary on Tuesday, May 29, 6:90 p.m. Confirmation of the senior class members will be on June 3 at the 9:30 worship service; they will partici­pate in holy communion for the first time on Pentecost Sunday at the first service. Weddings: in the celebration of an “ecumenical” marriage between James Michael Teleposky and Ethel Susan Papp on April 29. Pastor, Dr. Andrew Harsanyi was joined by the Rev. John Chonko, Pastor of St. Elizabeth of Hun­gary Roman Catholic Church, as wit­nessing minister. The two pastors shared equally in the service. Ethel Papp, a public school teacher, has been the sec­retary and a teacher of our Sunday School for many years. On April 28, the marriage vows were taken by Robert Edward Darby and Eleanor Hope Tem­­palsky. Funeral: Balázs Fodor (William Fe­dor), 62, was buried on April 25. Jo­seph Kuhn, a member of our congrega­tion for half a century who some years ago moved to Florida, was buried in Seminole, Fla. on April 27. He was 77. Elders Frank Verseki and Walter Kovács were reelected secretary and treasurer, respectively, of the Eastern Classis at the April 8 Annual Assembly in Roebling. Mrs. Agnes Dorko is the new Hun­garian secretary of United Church Wo­men elected to this office at the Annual Conference in Trenton, May 6. DUQUESNE, PA.
