After the long, cold winter days, March is considered the month of “new beginnings.” This was the case in our church life, also. With the resignation of our Chief-Elder of 1972, Bert Somogyi, Jr., in January, we were left without a leader until March. We are now happy to announce our new Chief- Elder for 1973 term, Steve Varga from Bordentown. Our remaining Church Council officers are: Vice Chief Elder Bertalan Bartha; English Secretary, Allen Birkholz; Hungarian Secretary, John Kollar; and Treasurer, Joseph Bartha. May God grant them the strength and wisdom to fulfill their offices with dignity and responsibility. We extend our great appreciation to Bert Somogyi, Jr. for his leadership as Chief-Elder during the 1972 term, as well as, our thanks to all the Church Council members for their assistance during the year. Elections for 1973 also took place in our two women’s organizations. Our officers in the Women’s Guild are: President, Mrs. John Genasky; Vice- President, Mrs. Allen Birkholz; Secretary, Mrs. James Harkel; and Treasurer, Mrs. George Bordash. Our officers in the Lorantffy Zsuzsanna Women’s Guild are: President, Mrs. James Gilanyi; Vice-President, Mrs. Steve Bajzath; Secretary, Mrs. Bert Somogyi, Sr.; and Treasurer, Mrs. John Peter. We ask God’s blessing and guidance on all our organizations and their activities. On March 11, we held our very successful annual Sandor-Jozsef Installation Dinner with an extra added touch of Hungarian. Decorations of red, white and green, original Hungarian handmade embroidery, crochet work, dolls, etc. were displayed on the walls and tables. In addition, our Sunday School surprised us with two delightful Hungarian Folk Songs, and a short history of the March 15 “Hungarian Independence Day” was recited. We welcomed at this occasion, Dean Andrew Harsanyi and his lovely wife from Carteret, Rev. Stephen Kovács and his lovely wife from Trenton, guésts from far and near, friends, and church members. Holy Communion for Lent was observed on March 18. Our Lorantffy Zsuzsanna Women’s Guild sponsored a Chinese auction which was a success as anticipated. This year we have already built four modern Sunday School rooms under the church, and we will put a new roof on the school, the auditorium will be repaired and newly painted, the first floor kitchen and meeting room will be remodeled. Together, with these remaining projects, the total cost of all improvements and purchases from 1965 will be $125,000. The Rt. Rev. Dr. Zoltán Beky, our former bishop, reached the 45th anniversary of his ordination. For this grace of God he wishes to express his thanksgiving in our church which he served for 37 years, as pastor.
