MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 13 Hungary - Kenya - Sudan This is an edited version of an interview with the Rev. István Csákány. Q: It isn’t every day that a Hungarian Reformed pastor is made available by an African church to go and work as an agricultural expert in another African country. Yet this is exactly what happened to István Csákány, who has been working in Kenya and who is about to go to Sudan. Could you tell me something about how all this came about? A: In 1967, representatives of the Presbyterian Church of East Africa visited the Reformed Church of Hungary, and agreed to send my colleague, Dr. Janos Pastor and myself as a result of their contacts with our leaders, our Church to Kenya. Dr. Pastor went to teach at St. Paul’s Theological College, Limuru.... Q: .... and you went into agricultural work? A: Yes, I was asked to work in a development project with the nomadic Maasai, because I am a qualified agriculturalist as well as a pastor. Q: What do your own people think about all this? A: At the moment, I am still officially the minister of a congregation not far from Budapest, and my people are waiting for me to return — they are hoping that I shall go back soon and serve them again. —RPS NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS AKRON, OHIO The construction of the Lorantffy Home has begun on October 11th, 1973.
