MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 13 LORANTFFY CARE CENTER We Have Broken Ground! Sunday afternoon, August 13, 1972, a tremendous group of people gathered at the Hungarian Reformed Church in Akron in order to start the ground breaking ceremonies for the Lorantffy Care Center with a thanks-giving church service. The opening prayer for this festive occasion was delivered by Rev. Kalman Adorján of the Youngstown congregation, followed by the sermon delivered by Rev. Charles Darocy, the Minister of the Detroit congregation, who reminded the assemblage of the tremendous faith which fought to bring the Lorantffy Care Center into being. After the reading from the Bible by Rev. Steven Csutoros, Mrs. Robert Rutherford sang the hymn “How Great Thou Art”. After the hymn, the Very Rev. Tibor Dömötör, Dean and Minister of the Akron congregation, ascended to the pulpit and delivered a highly emotion charged sermon, comparing the spirit of the. ground breaking ceremonies to the miracle of creation, the pentecostal faith of the early Christians and the deeds of the Reformers. Auxiliary Bishop Aaron Elek delivered the prayer of thanksgiving and the blessing, after which Rev. Joseph Szirmai closed the church services. The multitude then proceeded, in unison, to the actual site of the Lorantffy Care Center, where Hugo Pfahler addressed the assemblage. Following his speech Rev. Tibor Dömötör, the Minister of the Akron congregation, Edward Vargo, the Chief Elder of the congregation and Hugo Pfahler, one of the creators of the dream of the Lorantffy Care Center together broke the ground and thus officially initiated the start of construction. Many delegates of visiting churches and civic groups thereafter eulogized this tremendous, and in many respects, uniquely pioneering undertaking. The ground breaking ceremonies then were closed with the singing of the Hungarian National Anthem. Following the ceremonies, the ladies of the Akron congregation hosted the visitors with coffee, cake and sandwiches, who truly enjoyed the fellowship for the remainder of the afternoon. The Akron Radio and Television Stations as well as the newspapers also reported the event of this ground breaking ceremony. The start of actual construction of the Lorantffy Care Center is scheduled to begin in four weeks! Let us glorify God, and let us all be thankful! Who Can Live at the Lorantffy Care Center? The Constitution of the Lorantffy Care Center, approved by the State of Ohio, has as its purpose to provide a home for all ageing or ailing Hungarian brethren, who need such a facility, and to provide it with as much Hungarian atmosphere as is possible. The personnel of the Care Center — doctors, nurses, aides, etc. will all be bi-lingual. The monthly charges for living in the home will be such that even the needy will be able to enter the home, even if they
