16 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ The Sr. Women’s Club, the Women’s Guild and even the Sunday School. The Christian Youth Fellowship members went caroling in three sections of our area during Christmas and were well received by everyone. HUNGARIAN COOK BOOK 4th Printing Order from: THE WOMEN’S GUILD 331 Kirkland Place, Perth Amboy, N. J. 08861 $1.00—Handling & Postage $.25 STATEN ISLAND, N. Y. The Christmas Season was richly blessed spiritually as well as financially. We had a very successful candlelight service with participation of our Sunday School children. We sincerely hope that the wonderful spirit of Christmas will stay with us during the new year. The carolers visited many families. The Women’s Guild Christmas party was a very well attended event and many neighbors joined us at this fine occasion. Statistics for 1970: 3 children baptism, 1 wedding, 3 funerals (2 were not members). We have 5 children for confirmation preparation. Joined to our church 1 couple with 3 children. We should repeat our buildings need more repairs and replacements in order to protect and maintain them. For this purpose we ask the members to donate for the Building Fund. The annual Congregational meeting will be held on the first Sunday of February. The Women’s Guild of the Church is planning to honor the elected officers and elders with an Installation Dinner. Time and other details will be published in the church bulletin. TRENTON, N. J. Our Christmas and holiday services brought spiritual and material blessings upon us. Rev. Stephen Török was our assisting minister. Partaking in the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper were 302 communicants. The Lorántffy Ladies’ Aid gave $1850, the Young Women’s Guild $500 as Christmas donations to the church. The huge Christmas tree in the church was the gift of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Matthias. All the decorations in the church were donated and arranged by Mr. and Mrs. John S. Toth, in memory of their parents. Highlight of the Sunday School Christmas Program in church was the presentation of their Advent Banks for the Hungarian Relief Fund. Their program continued in the auditorium following a covered dish luncheon. The Sunday School also gave $100 toward our new organ. The Youth Fellowship’s toy drive ended in visitations to two hospitals for children. Guests at their Christmas Party were Rev. Paul Stavrakos, our former assisting minister, and the youth from his church in Philadelphia. The Fellowship’s New Year’s Eve dance had Bethlen Youth Federation members from Detroit, Akron, and the Eastern Classis cities of New Jersey. All our other organizations held Christmas social events with happy results. The New Year’s Eve dance of our church was very successful as well. Baptisms: December 13th, Eric Jay, the infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Martin; December 20th, Daniella Margaret, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ljubisa Stefanovic. Confirmation: On November 29th, Miss Gertrude Fahr and on December 20th Mr. and Mrs. Ljubisa Stefanovic and Alexander Szilágyi, Jr., were confirmed in the Reformed Christian faith. Marriage: Geraldine Weber and Edward J. Mount were married on December 23rd. Funerals: December 1, Joseph Molnár; December 16th, Louis Jakab, and on December 30th, Mrs. Andrew P. Varga. The dedication of the new Lord’s Table, the gift of the Lorántffy Ladies’ Aid was held on November 29th by the pastor, Mrs. Antal Mészáros, President, and Mr. Alexander Sabo, Sr., Chiefelder. Our guest minister on that date was the Rev. Joseph Kriizsely, pastor of the Hungarian Reformed Church in Geneva, Switzerland. The donation of our congregation toward his proposed new church in Geneva was the second largest donation of the American Hungarian churches, per Rev. Kriizsely’s thank-you letter to us. Recently two young Hungarians arrived from camps in Italy. Also, two young couples came from Jugoslavia to find future lives among us. We are happy to report that donations for our new organ, costing $9,600, exceeded the $10,000 mark. Mr. Gilbert Lugossy, our church member, was elected Freeholder for Mercer County, New Jersey. His formal installation was held on January 2nd, at which time our pastor gave the benediction. We congratulate Mr. Lugossy and wish him well on this responsible position of our community. YOUTH NEWS Bethlen Youth Federation B.Y.F. ALUMNI In 1938 a group of enthusiastic young people felt a desire to broaden their friendships and to close the gap created by geographical location, of the youth of the Hungarian Reformed Churches in America. This desire was fulfilled at the first conference of the Bethlen Youth Federation held in Duquesne, Pennsylvania in 1939. Today in this age of the new generation this same enthusiasm and same desire is being heard again. This time it is not just the voices of the older generation seeking to renew old friendships, but also of the new generation searching for a place where someday they too can join together to share in their friendships and experiences and possibly bring closer together this generation gap we talk so much about. There is today, a new group emerging with that same desire, called the B.Y.F. Alumni Association. It is hoped that with the help and support of all past members of the Bethlen Youth Federation this new organization can be the place where old friendships are renewed and new friendships can be made lasting. Like all new organizations, the Alumni Association, without support of time, talents and money, cannot function. At this time we are seeking the support of all past members and anyone else who wishes to contribute in any way to help build the Alumni into a lasting organization. To help defray some of the expenses incurred in preparation for the first Alumni Conference, an Alumni Fund has been established in The Peoples Union Bank in Duquesne, Pennsylvania. Cash contributions should be made payable to the B.Y.F. Alumni Fund and sent to the following address: B.Y.F. Alumni Fund c/o Robert A.
