MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 11 MAGYAR CHURCH THOUGHTS FOR NEW YEAR “Behold, X make all things new ” (Rev. 21:5) At the threshold of the New Year, we would like to forget the past and start a new life. It sounds good, but in spite of our good intention, at once, we need to realize that it is impossible to do it ourselves. We need help! We need someone who can help us. As a child starts to walk, he asks for the hand of his mother. And when his hand is in hers, he walks the new path unafraid. We, too, can ask for the hand of our heavenly Father that He may help us to walk the new road unafraid. If it is indeed to be a new year, we should start a new life, we should start all things new. It may seem hard, but it can be done. The Book of Revelation says that the One who sits upon the throne of God, can make all things new. Christ can change us. He can make all things new around us. When He was on earth, things happened — things that never happened before. He is able to do wonders today, if we turn to him and follow him and obey his teachings. “Behold, I make all things new.” First, it means that God will make us new. We make new year resolutions; plans for the future; and we may desire to build a better tomorrow. But do you realize that it cannot be done, if we continue to hold unto our old dispositions? Do you know that without the help of Christ, we cannot change things? There is no hope for us unless we are willing to walk the road of life according to God’s guidance. There is no New Year unless we realize that for us Christ is the beginning and end, the source of life, the fountain of all blessings. New Year is worth nothing unless our hearts undergo a change. There is no need to do things by ourselves. God offers his help. The Bible declares: “A new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh” (Ez. 36:26). In Jeremiah, God says: “A new heart will I give you” (31:33). You see, there is no New Year without new heart. But as soon as we receive new heart from God, we become new persons, renewed in mind and soul. Our old man will be put off. Unkindness and selfishness will pass out of our ife. We will follow the will of God. We will be completely devoted to Christ. We will live as good Christians. We will love the Lord and our fellowmen. We will seek the welfare and growth of the Church of Christ. Simply to say: We will he completely new children of God. Of course, God does not ask us to do it alone. Instead, he offers to do it for us, if we will only let him. Let Christ do the great change in our lives. Let Iiim come into our hearts. We can ask him with the hymn: “Come into my heart, Lord Jesus. Come in today, come into stay; Come into my heart, Lord Jesus.” “Behold, I make all things new.” It also means that God through Christ will make allt hings new for us. God’s promise includes not only a new year, but according to him everything will be new. We will have a new understanding; we will have a new will; we will be good Church-goers; we will support the Church faithfully; we will have a different attitude toward sin; we will obey God; we will be separated from the world; we will love other people and we will not practice sin. A es, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creation. Old things will pass away and all things will become new! What a wonderful opportunity for a new start with the help of God. And we need his help more than ever before. The crucial step is up to you. Will you believe God’s promise? Will you trust Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour and become a completely new person in him? If so, why not tell God right now that you accept his offer of a new life? Barnabas Roczey
