MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 13 building can duplicate this “miracle in Miami” provided it has their kind of dedication and vision. The greatest in this vision is not a valuable property or a big profit but the creation of a solid financial foundation for the maintenance of a Hungarian Reformed ministry even in future times when the decreasing number of members may be unable to maintain such ministry. The 30 unit Kossuth Apartments-building was dedicated June 14. Dr. Andrew Harsanyi, dean of the Eastern Classis preached at the service of thanksgiving. Dr. Zoltán Beky, president of the Reformed Federation, spoke before a gathering of some 200 people and dedicated the building to the glory of God. A wall-plaque bearing the names of the chief officers of congregation, denomination and Federation was also dedicated. At the banquet following the dedication Dr. Beky presented the Rev. Szőke and contractor Gaspar Nagymihaly with the Reformed Federation’s gold medals; in turn, Dr. Beky, Mr. Nagymihaly and members of the Building Committee were given beautifully designed memorial plaques. It was a great day. May the Lord be praised for it. A. H. B.Y.F. NATIONAL CONFERENCE SEPTEMBER 3-7 The 31st National Bethlen Youth Federation Conference is slated for September 3-7. This year it is in the East hosted by Perth Amboy. Camp Minnisink will be the site, in Stillwater, New Jersey. The camp is wellequipped with basketball courts, athletic fields, canoes, and modern plumbing facilities which some will be happy to hear. The topic chosen for the weekend is Hou) to Be A Christian Without Being Religious, which is the question many are asking themselves, not only the youth. Books on the topic will soon be sent out to each club so they will have an idea of what to expect. In the Recreation Department, the Perth Amboy group is working hard to come up with a new twist. So far, a few new surprises are in store. These should prove to be enjoyable. Shortly, all clubs will be receiving registration forms. If your group does not receive any or not enough, send a letter to our Corresponding Secretary, Miss Janice Kozma, 5 Pleasant Place, Metuchen, New Jersey. Cindy Banyacski President, Perth Amboy Y.F. WHAT’S UP IN NAIROBI? Magyar Egyház, in its February 1970 issue, already gave a brief outline of the upcoming 20. General Council meeting of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches to be held August 20-30 in Nairobi, Kenya, Africa. The main event of the meeting will be the merger of the World Alliance with the International Congregational Council to become the new World Alliance of Reformed Churches (Presbyterian and Congregational), At a communion service, with Dr. Eugene Carson Blake, General Secretary of the World Council of Churches and a presbvterian minister as the preacher, the delegates—from 127 churches in 75 countries —will be summoned by the presiding minister to affirm their faith in Christ and commit themselves to serve Him in the world. The wording of the “covenant”, in which the Assembly will join is as follows: We, the representatives of Reformed, Presbyterian and Congregational churches in all the corners of the earth, holding the word of God given in the Bible to be the ultimate authority in matters of faith and life, acknowledging Jesus Christ as head of the church, and rejoicing in our fellowship with the whole church, covenant together to seek in all things the mind of Christ, to make common witness to His gospel to serve His purpose in all the world, and, in order to be better equipped for the tasks He lays upon us, to form this day the new World Alliance of Reformed Churches. Lord, keep us faithful to yourself and to our fellowmen. Amen. Assembly theme The main theme “God reconciles and makes free” relates to the very centre of the Christian faith: How do we speak meaningfully to our fellowmen of God who acts in reconciliation? How can we avoid “cheap interpretations” of reconciliation, which is “a word that has to be healed in order to bring healing”? In the interpretation of the theme we are not dealing with two separate themes: reconciliation and freedom. The latter is inextricably related to God’s deed of reconciliation. Professor Jürgen Moltmann, who wrote the preparatory study document, will introduce the assembly theme at the first plenary session. Then there are the sections, each to be introduced by the authors of the respective study documents.
