14 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ MAGYAR CHURCH IN JUBILANT ACCORD .. . Bishop’s Consecration in Perth Amboy On the beautiful Sunday afternoon of June 16 the Rev. Dezső Abraham, at a solemn service of worship in the Perth Amboy, N. J. church, became the third bishop of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America succeeding the Rt. Rev. Louis Nagy. Before the beginning of the service, Bishop Nagy reopened the General Assembly of the Church which had been adjourned at Trenton, N. J. on February 19, thus setting the official framework for the installation. The congregation which filled the church to capacity was called to worship by the Rev. Tibor Toth, dean of the Western Classis. The Rt. Rev. Alexander Daroczy offered prayers in Hungarian and Bishop Louis Nagy preached on 1. Peter 2:9-10. Bishop Dezső Abraham les Kiss as chief lay curator and the Rev. Stephen Kovács as general secretary. In turn, the officers of the General Assembly were sworn in by the new general secretary. They include John Kontz and Albert St. Miklossy, treasurers of the General Fund and of the Mission Fund, respectively, the Rev. Tibor Dömötör, the Rev. Alexander Forro, the Rev. Stephen Szőke, Charles Bone, John Marincsak, Louis Yager, members of the Judicial Commission, and Alex B. Eger, attorney. The new bishop preached his inaugural sermon both in English and in Hungarian while the prayer of consecration was offered by Dean Dr. Andrew Harsanyi. The Rt. Rev. Dezső Abraham dismissed the congregation with the benediction. Following the service more than 600 people gathered in the Church Center for a testimonial banquet prepared and served by the two women’s groups and the young people of the Church. The long list of Chief Lay Curator Charles Kiss Dr. Zoltán Beky, the first bishop of the Hungarian Reformed Church in America gave the charge to the new bishop upon which the kneeling Rev. Abraham was consecrated by the laying on of hands and Scripture passages said by former bishops Dr. Beky and Nagy, former archdean Alexander Daroczy, and the deans of the three classes, Gabor Csordás, Dr. Andrew Harsanyi and Tibor Toth. The oath of office was administered by General Secretary Gabor Csordás. Thereupon, Bishop Abraham installed Charofficial greetings included Congressman Edward J. Patten, Perth Amboy Mayor Edward J. Flynn, the Rev. Francis Vitéz, the Rev. Dr. Csaba Baksa and the Rev. Imre Bertalan from the sister Churches, and Canon Dr. George Boyd from the Perth Amboy Ministerial Association, the new chief lay curator, Charles Kiss and his predecessor, Dr. Alexander Kiss. Warm greetings were sent by eight Hungarian Reformed bishops from the old country. Dean Csordás read passages from the congratulatory letters written
