12 MAGYAR EGYHÁZ In conclusion I would say with Augustin: “When ye rise, when ye betake yourselves to sleep, repeat your Creed, repeat it to God. . .. Say not, I said it yesterday, I have said it today, I say it everyday, I remember it right well. Rehearse thy faith, Look into thyself. Let thy Creed be as a mirror to thee. See thou thyself therein, whether thou believest all thou professest to believe, and rejoice in thy faith each day.” (Serm. 58—Opera e. Bened. VI.) John Nemesnyik, Passaic, N. J., newly elected president of the American Hungarian Reformed Presbyters’ Association. Darocy All Major newspapers are prepared for every Contingency. They even have obituaries for famous people, All they need are the details of the individual’s death. This a very practical idea, and opens great new areas of interest. Somewhere in my battered file I found one of these “Instant Obituaries.” Perhaps you will enjoy, or rather not enjoy, reading it. CHRISTENDOM MOURNS PASSING OF SUNDAY SCHOOL MOVEMENT: NO COMMENT BY SUPREME COURT, U.N. HAILS GAIN BY SECULARISM Oct. 1, 1966, N. Y.,—The Long-awaited death of the Protestant Sunday School movement took place today in countless churches. The victim was 186 years old. Born in England in 1780, and dedicated to the cause of teaching the Christian faith to the children of the poor, the Sunday School enjoyed great popularity for nearly two centuries. In many thousands of instances it was organized before the local church. To kindly folk it offered what Christians refer to as “the consolations of religion.” Many observers hold that the major cause of death was the decreasing interest of laymen in the work of the Sunday School. The recruitment of teachers became more difficult year after year. The long weekend led to a decrease in attendance by children. Church boards often tended to view the Sunday School as the child care program rather than the evangelistic arm of the entire Christian community. Educators, many of whom have long since given up any interest in the Church, tended to feel that the death of the Sunday School is a good thing. To them it is evident that now children will not be misled by the teachings of a Christ who failed to comform to the world by being a regular guy but faced the Cross in order to indicate His power and truth. Funeral services for the Sunday School will be held in a few places. Most church leaders are too busy trying to straighten out the world to attend. New Doctor of Theology The Rev. Nicholas Sewell (Miklós Szüle), pastor of the Hungarian Presbyterian Church in Niles, Ohio has been awarded Doctor of Sacred Theology (STD) degree from Galilean University, Tampa, Fla. His dissertation was in the field of church history on the subject of “The Ethnic Contribution to the Social and Religious Profile of East Ohio”. Magyar Egyház plans to print several sections of Dr. Sewell’s dissertation. DO NOT FORGET November 6 is MISSION SUNDAY. Bring your Mission Fund donation to church. The churches, in turn, should send the collected contributions to the treasurer of the Mission Fund, Mr. Albert St. Miklossy, 23 Evergreen Avenue, Fords, N. J. 08863.
