MAGYAR EGYHÁZ 11 YOUTH NEWS EASTERN AREA YOUTH FEDERATION What is the Ecumenical Movement? How does it appear in the life of the Protestant Churches? Is the work in and through the World Council of Churches the only expression of it? How does the Ecumenical Move­ment affect the Roman Catholic Church today? These were among the questions discussed by the Quar­terly Conference of the Eastern Area Youth Federation on Staten Island, October 18. The theme was presented by Dr. Aladár Komjáthy, the group discussions were led by Charlotte Kosa, Nancy Szabó and Roger Bodnar. The Conference also • heard area president Walt Ka­­tona’s report; • by unanimous vote admitted the Youth Fellowship of the New Brunswick (Somerset St.) Hun­garian Reformed Church to full membership in the Federation; • made plans for the next Con­ference to be held in January in New Brunswick. A group from the Passaic Church was welcomed as guests. Some lively dialogues followed the meeting — around the dinner table and on the dance-floor . . . DUQUESNE Our Youth Fellowship started a membership drive in September and acquired seven new members. The new members participated in a bowling night. Albert Helmeczi showed his movies of the B.Y.F. Conference, which was enjoyed by all. Our group participated in the District Youth Conference held at McKeesport on October 18. We are looking forward to our next year’s Conference and are starting our new conference fund by a spaghetti dinner to be held on Thursday, November 12. The dinner will be prepared by the Women’s Club of our church. NEWS FROM THE CONGREGATIONS DUQUESNE On World Wide Communion Sun­day we filled our church, 223 lived with the sacrament. Our next Com­munion Services will be held on November 22, the Sunday before Thanksgiving Day, On October 11 close to forty of us journeyed to Youngstown, Ohio, to participate in the Installation Service and Banquet of their new pastor — returning their visit with us on our tenth anniversary in May. On October 18 our young people attended the District Youth Con­ference in McKeesport, Pa. Coming events include; Sunday, November 1 — our Fall Fellowship Dinner — an important date for our congregation. The entertainment will be supplied by our Youth Fellowship. And in turn, our Women’s Club will prepare the spaghetti dinner for our young people to start their new Conference Fund — on Thursday, November 12. CARTERET At the Annual Dinner on October 31 two new pastors of the area, Dr. Nicholas Nyáry from Staten Island and the Rev. Barna Rőczey from Roebling were introduced. U.S. Army Chaplain Major Ernst Kosa was asked to speak on the program of pastoral care for men in the service. The foundation of the Free Magyar Reformed Church in America 40 years ago was gratefully remembered. The Carteret Church has been a member of this denomination since the very beginning thus joining the group of Hungarian Reformed con­gregations in America who decided to live their church life faithful to their old country traditions and free from outside admnistration or finan­cial assistance. The reroofing of the church build­ing has been completed. The next project to be finished before the end of the year will be a major renova­tion job on the two-family dwelling house of the church. Baptism: Ragan, daughter of Al­bert R. Andres and his wife Patricia Ann Pross. PERTH AMBOY The newly elected officers of the Christian Youth Fellowship were in­stalled on Youth Sunday, October 11th: Rodney Matto, president; Andrew Lovász, vice president, Carol Harsányi, recording secretary, Linda Varga, corresponding secretary, Pris­cilla Hunyady, treasurer, Janet Tar­­iska and Julia Warga, Chaplains. The members will participate in a corporate Holy Communion on No­vember 1st. November 8th, Sunday, a Chinese Auction and Social will be held by the choirs for the benefit of our new piano fund. November 15th, Sunday, a cake sale will be held by the Chrstian Youth Fellowship. The Annual Thanksgiving Banquet is scheduled for Sunday November 22nd, at 6 P.M. The repairs and painting of the church will be com­plete by that time, and the rededi­cation of the church is tentatively scheduled for that day. On Thanksgiving Day, November 26th, the worship service will be held at 9 o’clock. The Bethlen Youth Federation’s Eastern Area members are planning to have a so-called “Autumn Festi­val” on Saturday November 28th at 7:30 P.M. in our Center. Baptisms: Andrew Michael, son of Louis Löki and Elsie H. Szabó; Patricia Lynn, daughter of Steven J. Deák and Florence E. Tóth; Lisa Joy, daughter of Steven J. Blaho and Lorraine J. Kiwior. May God bless the infants, parents and god­parents. The gratitude and appreciation of the pastor and his wife is hereby extended to the members of the 10th Anniversary Committee, the Sr. Women’s Club, the Women’s Guild, the Bible School, the Men’s Club, the Youth Fellowship, the Sunday School, the Choir and to all church members and friends who in any way helped to make September 20th an unforgettable day. ROEBLING World-Wide Communion was held on Sunday, October 4. The elements were given by Mrs. E. Bartha, Mrs. E. Varga and Mrs. S. Boldizsár. Baptisms: September 20: Kevin Eric Robb, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Robb; September 27: Andrea Kuapahi, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kuapahi. About 15 people from Roebling attended the dinner in honor of Dean Dezső Ábrahám. There will be no confirmation class this year. However, we are conduct­ing a pre-confirmation class meeting every Friday. Our Adult Sunday School class has been reactivated. It will be impossible to have the ordination and installation of our new pastor this year because all Sundays are taken by other churches. However, it was decided to have an “Acquaintance Dinner” on Saturday, November 14. STATEN ISLAND November 15, Sunday is the date of the Installation Service for the newly elected pastor, the Rev.
